We'll line up again this Sunday ( 20th) for another downwinder. Conditions are looking great with a bit of residual swell and a 20kn Southerly predicted. Plan is to meet at the South end of the Port Beach carpark at 1530, with the aim of getting away at 1600. Finishing point will be the Swannie carpark. Give Galvo a call at his shop for more info. 0416 187816 Leashes a must !!
Hopefully will be away getting a wave
Just a thought - You usually meet at the end point of a downwinder so it would be better to meet at Swannie saves time.
anyone doing the mandura downwinder tomorrow
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/SUP/Mandurah-Blast-Trial-Cut-Run-this-weekend-19-Nov/
looks like good downwind weather for the weekend.
Would love to do the Mandurah race but realistically it is 6 hours door to door for just over an hour of racing. Might do a local run on Saturday or go down and join Lach and Galvo and the boys on Sunday.
With the forecast the way it is maybe summer is just around the corner....
Plan on doing the sunday run with chickenstix and the boys, see you at sand trax. Join the masses for a Kiting downwinder tomorrow
Great arvo yesterday - 18-22kn S/SW, bit of swell left over, and a 1.5m sea. 9 starters with boards ranging from a 17' Naish Glide, 14' DC, 14' Fanatic, 14' Starboard, 2 x Amundson 12'6", 1 x Jimmy Lewis 12'6", Starboard Whopper ??!!, and Roger 'Frog in a Sock' Goodwin surprising everyone with his performance on an ancient 12'2" Starboard round nose. Some great runs had by everyone, with Galvo claiming it to be one of his best downwinders for a long time.
A huge thanks to Sal, Donna and the boys for organising the cars And the ice cold beers for the post race de-brief.
The Bay to Beach is on next Sunday, so at this stage we won't be doing a Sunday Arvo DW next week, but will keep you informed for the following week.
Shame the bay to beach starts at 11am as the wind probably wont have swung by then, making it a one sided paddling affair to battle the se'er.
That stretch is one of if not the best in metro perth when it is on.
Awesome afternoon, thanks chickenstix for organising and the shuttle back to the cars. It was my first DWer in the ocean and my first on the DC, so much to learn... mostly balance..
Thanks Galvo for hanging back and making sure I made it to the end and for the tips on foot positioning. Managed a few good runs towards the end and learnt heaps. The cold beers and entertainament at the end was gold...
Cant make next weekend but will make the following if its on.
cheers
