Thumbs Up

This post is about a Down Wind Course. Surf orientated paddlers have the option to stop reading now!

2 weeks ago, a few of us went out for a paddle from Portarlinton to Point Henry.
It was a really fun run. These are my comments to make it even more fun for a future run....

Required Wind Window, East through North East, 15 knots or more
Starting Points - Point Richards at Portarlington or Cliftonton Springs.
Finishing Options - Either of the two caravan parks down near Leopold, they are also easy to see from the water.

Picture below;
Taken from Google Earth, and is the Bellarine Peninsula near Geelong.
Top is due North.
The big White Triangle gives you the wind direction options. The western tip of the triangle is focussed on a sandy shoal at Point Richards. With a strong East Wind, the runners that form in the bay wrap around Point Richards, and run you down to the Leopold Caravan Parks.

There are 3 lines along the coast...
Northern Line - is the shipping channel alignment
Centre Line - is the route we took (we were caught out by the bend in the shipping channel... heads down getting runners, and not thinking straight - lesson learned)
Bottom Line - is a better route option. This route also keeps you closer to the coastline, which is technically much safer.
