Hey Dogman, you though that was funny. Here he is (Pugs as we know him) trying a new style of riding. Not sure how many points he got for this move!

Hiya 62mac,

Yep I am wearing the leggy on the front foot. Basically my right leg is pretty 'RS'. Very ugly compound dislocation of the ankle 10 years ago (twisted the foot off the end of my leg - spagetti hanging out the hole - very ugly sight!!!!!). Doctors told me I would probably need a walking stick for the rest of my life. Patch up job was done by a student orthopeadic surgeon and I wish he could see what a fantastic job he did! Apart from being 'locked' pretty solid, I can do just about anything. (I use this 'locked ankle' as my excuse for the 'poo-stance' I seem to always have when on a wave hehehehe!!!)

Biggest problem with that leg though is the lack of an anterior cruciate in the right knee. Yet another horse 'incident' 5 years ago - jumped off a rearing horse that was about to flip itself over backwards and did a complete rupture of the ligament. Doctor told me that it was not really worth doing a reconstruction on someone my age - what a rude man - but when he told me it was 9 months recovery time for reconstruction I was happy with the alternative course of action which was to just work on strengthening everything else up.

SUP has been fantastic for that and the physio is amazed at the strength I now have in that knee but a good yank from the leggy could bring that all undone - and separate my leg into two pieces - hence the front foot!!!!

Hope that clears this up for everyone as I have seen a few strange looks!
Cheers Mel
PS - What a great event !! What great people!!! Had an absolute blast !!!!!

Hey Mel - talk about an action woman!

Have you tried using one of those "above the knee" leg straps? If this will work for your leg then you will free up your front foot/leg a lot. Getting the legrope out of your way will improve your surfing significantly.

Great to see you having a go at the event. I think I only just beat you on the paddle race!

Hey Piros,

If reading about it makes you cringe, spare a thought for me, the poor innocent husband that had to look at it and administer first aid!!!!!!!
PS - it also freaked out some of the medical staff at the hospital!

Thanks Guys,

Sorry for hijacking the thread a bit???? I didn't know there was a leggy that you could put above the knee??? That would certainly be worth a try. Gonna see if my current one will go around there next surf (tomorrow - have to work today).

I appreciate the advice Mike. I do tread on the leggy a bit.
Cheers Mel
PS - does anyone have a contact for Mike Dawes (the bloke that took these photos)? Would love to thank him for getting one of me not in 'poo-stance' !!!!!!

You could also attach the legrope just below the knee if you that will work for you. Just ask for it is any surfshop and they will know what you are looking for...

I will get hold if Mike Dawes contact details and email it to you.

You can download these pics, free of charge, from his flickr site www.flickr.com/search/?w=8263143@N07&q=stand+up&m=text

When you find the photo you like double click it and then select the "All sizes" option above the photo - this will let you download the photos at different resolutions.

Here is a cool one of the Dogman changing his paddle grip (at 1024 x 732 size)
