Here is a clip from the night race which was held on Saturday in Auckland..great event, and a very surreal paddling experience
Looks cool. I think you might find the Hawkesbury Classic (111km overnight) is a contender for first night race.
I did say possibly, and to be fair to the organisers they promoted it that way as well
It was slick, the venue was St Marys Bay which is right beside Westhaven Marina in Aucklands CBD, which made it very accessible and also sheltered! There were different categories which catered for all from novice through to the hardcore.
A few Olympic sailors competed, and that helped to attract a news crew and meant it was featured in the sports section of the following nights national news.
Bring on next year and some night vision googles.
Makai Paddlers had night races last August in Burrill Lake south of Ulladulla (NSW).
Was a great night racing under spotlights.
How good would that be on the best harbour in the world - a still autumn night on Sydney Harbour
Someone organise it!!!!
and Kieran you should get a crew to go to the Makai Paddle weekend in ulladulla Chris posted, a great weekend
Keep your eyes on the breeze. The Shoalhaven Spring Festival is on in October & we are considering some night sprint racing on the river to keep the crowds entertained!
And yes, the Makai Paddlers event at Burrill lake, Ulladulla was fab!
We ran a 24 hour race four years ago here in sunny old Canberra. Nothing like the laps at around 3-4 in the morning to challenge the balance and timing. It's on again this November if anyone is up for a fun night.
