Hi guys,

What production 14 footers suit the beer and pie loving suppers (115kgs). For Perth based downwinders and doctor crossing

Fanatic 14 ? not sure if it will suit a fat boy, Starboard Open Ocean, hobie (dont think I can get them over here) Not keen on the Naish Glide.

I havent phoned around any shops yet but assume only Starboard and maybe Fantic and naish avalaible for demo in Perth.

Cheers

Don't write off the new Naish Glide. They have taken a lot of the rocker out of it that pushed water. When they arrive demo one. Actually best advice would to grab all three you mentioned and demo them all on the same day in same conditions. All are good brands and it will come back to personal preference.

Cheers

What exactly is a production board?
Most of the so called production boards are hand shaped...overseas
Since march this year DC stopped making any custom boards for the 12'6 or the 14' even if you ask him to. Each model (12'6 Aruda or 14' Makaru) comes in 2 different width
Any comment you hear on a 14' makaru by 30" wide ( the yellow board in the thread below was the 1st prototype of this new shape) is exactly what you would get on any other 14' makaru by 30" if you are trying one since they are all computerized shape from the same file.

Adam actually has one of the 14' x 30' that he got off Dale after last years Dr Race, but I don't think has used it too much and I am sure he would let you have a go. I have a 14' Lahui Kai Orca, which again your more than welcome to have a go of.

Don't write off the Naish's with the extra rocker they have they sit well in our short period wind swell we get.

I know the guys down at AKS in Scarbs will be getting the new Fanatics in over the next few months and last I heard they were going to have a few to demo.

The guys at Auswind deom boards down at Pelican Point on the weekends (mainly Starboards) and if you give them a call they might be able to arrange one of the more specialised DW boards.

There was a C4 floating around somewhere after last years Dr, but don't know where that went. I think the guys at Woody's and also West Oz Kiteboarding stock Coreban so maybe give them a call to see if they have the Coreban 14'.

Fanatic 14 has tons of volume (320l) but I'm not sure it's the go for 115kg unless your balance is very good (to be fair, I only had a very short time on one in very ****ty conditions, in the dark on a freezing cold morning before my first coffee). Little mate who rides one says you need to keep a narrow stance.

As Swanie said, don't discount the glide 14, it's surprisingly forgiving and I liked it even with the big nose rocker (and despite feeling like I was riding on the Prince of Persia's shoe). With your weight and a bit of muscle you might be pleasantly surprised what stepping forward will do.

Haven't been on any of the 2011 starboard 14s.

DC 14 x 30 is just fantastic for OFBs (like me). I fall off mine occasionally but that's not the board's fault, I'd surely be in the drink a lot more on any of the others. If you're in WA shipping cost from the Goldie might be high but it's worth giving Dale a call anyway, he's very approachable.

This DC 14' by 30" you are talking about is totally different from the 14' by 30" Makaru DC is producing at the moment. So trying this board won't give you a clue about one you would order today. They just are different boards, the new one being a lot more stable even with the same width.

Thanks for the input,

I drop Dale an e-mail, the DC sounds just right for a fat bloke. Thnaks for the offer of a paddle on your board surf4fun. I might hit you up shortly.

cheers

I have the DC14 which is prior to the current model. Dale did explaing the differences to me but I'm not very good with the technical stuff and can't remember.
Shunter, you are more than welcome to have a go anytime you like.

I put in a suggestion to Starboard to upgrade the Fisherman board to include a built in stubby holder and pie warmer. Haven't heard back from them.

Hey Shane
I've got a couple of kilo's on you
I've ordered the DC14' Makaru that Al Hunter suggested for all the same selection criteria you mentioned. Ask Stu in Melbourne from a previous post on the same board. He's wrapped

The 14' Starboard Open Ocean would be a great choice for a big fatty boom-bar-larda..

Also concider the 14' Hobie and 14' NSP.. Both also great boards for those with a permanent winter coat..

Decided on the DC14' Makaru,

Bring on summer seabreezes and beers in the carpark after epic downwind runs

Now what colour will match my sluggers....
