You have'nt lived til you've seen Puberty Blues.
Made in 1981 and filmed around Cronulla.
Bunch of surfy doods and chicks hangin out.
"Check out Debbie Vickers and her olds"
The Sutherland Shire Lifeguards got paid $8000 as extras to play themselves and do what they were getting paid by Council to do anyhow....except the fight scene.....that gave all of them their deposits to buy real estate in Cronulla and get a foot in....
They especially have a soft spot for the film...thanks for coming !
The school scenes were filmed at Sylvania High and the peeling little reef waves we're filmed at Shelly Beach between Windy Point and Shelly Pool. Doesn't break anymore as there's no sand blowing across the bay from the sand hills which used to fall on top of the reef and keep the levels higher....was known as mini pipe back then. Love watching that piece of film to reminisce as I used to surf it as a grom.
Just saying.......
Debbie meets Bruce.
Check out the Polaroids on Brucey.
I think they are LeSpecs....
A mate of mine gave it to me for my 30s and said it was a must see australian classic I had to have (along the castle, the man from the snowy mountain and murielle's wedding!). I've got to say it put a lot of things into perspective the first time I watched it!
I can now perfectly slot the words "deadset", "rutable" or "blodge" everytime an occasion presents itself!
Also got to mention the lovely sticker on the backwindow of the van: "to all the virgins, thanks for nothing!"
I'm just surprised the mid-20 kids i work with havent heard of it...
playing golf with a mate the other day, he left a putt short and called himself a 'gutless wonder'. I remarked I don't think I have heard that used since I last saw Puberty Blues
I happened to watch Storm Boy again after about 30 years a few months back when it screened on SBS.
Brought a little tear to my eye - what a beautiful Aussie movie.
Kenny is another favourite.
Hi guys,
If you're walking down memory lane for classic old Aussie movies, you need to have a look at :
Mad Max Trilogy
Puberty Blues
Two Hands
The Big Steal
The Castle
Crackerjack
Running on Empty
The Dish
Storm Boy
Enjoy

Stone is a classic Aussie move but it never moved me, Mad Max 2, Mad Max 3 and Bad Boy Bubby didn't either.
Years and years ago there was an Aussie movie set in Richmond, looks really dated now - Dogs in Space - anyone remember that?
I enjoy lots of Aussie movies. Romper Stomper and Shine were great
I can't believe I forgot "Windrider" with Tom Burlinson, and Nicole Kidmans second movie after BMX Bandits.
LOL
