SUP RESULTS HAWKSBURY 111ks / 2014
Mark Buchanan 12:13:45 / Mathew Clarke 12:18:40 / Cameron Tunbridge 12:25:15 / Andrew Bourke 12:31:00 /
Mick Bertram 14:37:45 / Courtney Couper 14:38:07 (F) / Andy Fermo 14:53:45 / David Sorensen 15:03:20
Estelle Edwards 17:04:38 (F) .... Peter Hopkins and Tom Simmat Started strong but didnt do the full 111ks
It must be said Tom Simmat paddled a coffin with high sidesinto a head wind most of the way to Sackville. It might have only been 30 odd k's but I couldn't have paddled that bloody thing to the windsor bridge!
Tom is a bit of a kayaking ledgend and has completed more hawkesbury classics than most, none of us could work him out but he must of wanted to change it up this year?
Perhaps Lyn can post a photo? It's gotta be seen to be believed
You forgot Rob Gittoes who completed the race the same time as me. We pushed through the ups and downs....great effort by everyone who completed the race
Anyone interested in Putting forward the SUP suggestions for the Hawkesbury Committee Please have a chat and post them here ... and we can forward them on.
To get started ... confirming female division .... Teams entry How many in a team 2 or 3 .. And I know their is going to be a poo fight about board lengths ...... but put the proposition forward ... and do it now !
Ok
Teams event:
I would think teams of 3 would be good as you can swap at the sackville and wisemans checkpoints. Teams could be made up of male/female paddlers and be paddled on 14' boards as this the size a lot of paddlers use for racing. I have been speaking to a few people who may be interested in this format.
Individual:
Possibly 2 board size categories of 14' and unlimited. Simples
No poo fight about board classes for the full distance its pretty simple, 14 foot and unlimited. These are already recognised classes and I'm no thinking many would be keen to paddle the HCC on a 12'6
I would suggest a relay format be limited to 14 foot boards and 3 person teams make sense.
Yes to confirming a female division and I can't see any reason why records for age divisions shouldn't exist which is in line with all other classes.
I know the HCC committee is already aware of some of these wishes and have indicated they will consider changes for next year
The HCC has a great history and us SUPers are the newbies but with the growth of SUP I think we can bring something to this great event and help contribute to the primary objective of raising money for leukemia research. Whatever changes we propose should be primarily to encourage paddlers to get involved and help with the cause.
Kent Hazlett the co-ordinator for the Hawkesbury Committee is putting forward the suggestions from this site and a few open discussions around the SUP ( and Canoe ) Paddle scene ... It is to include the following points ...
A Teams category be included in future Classic Events. It was suggested a Three Person Team be appropriate using the same SUP .. (and before I get comments .. not three people standing on the one board !)
and the inclusion of a Female Division be put into the SUP Class .....
Just a short note based on discussion with Dyed in the Wool Committee members ( and long term paddlers ) The Classic has a strong tradition of being a full 111kilo Paddle But numbers are dropping and perhaps its time for a change ....
Definitely a bucket list event. As a three person team, what would be the distances between changeover points? Do you go 37km each or do you swap every 10km or so all the way up the course?
