We held a little race in Robe on Sunday afternoon, about 12 of us took off across the harbour from Robe town beach to 3rd ramp, boards ranging from full race boards 12 foot ocean going rides to Bretto on his 8.5 Starboard chubby. Scotty Mac took it out in a time around 30 minutes from memory.

I had a bloody ball cruising across the open waters with Russ and Chris Hale, catching the little runners, cant wait to get another race organised,

I will post up some more pics later tonight,

Here is our route though,

Heres the crew.......

Howdy DJ,
I paddled Jonathans 14 foot penetrator.
Thats me in the yellow shorts.
I think I finished in a round about 23 mins.
It was about a 5-10knot downwinder for just under 5km.
I had been sup surfing every morning for about a week and had a kite surf the afternoon before and a solid windsurfing afternoon the afternoon before that so
I was feeling pretty sore so it was pretty much take the pain the whole way!
Would not have heard the end of it if Cam Gillies beat me on his 12'6" penetrator so I made him watch my yellow shorts all the way.
Bad luck fungus toes grandpa pants!
Second and third was a close affair also.
It was great to see everyone give it a crack, especially the crew on shorter boards.
Sure it will be on the cards again for next year.

Wasn't a bad race but as we all know the sup surfing comp was the main event, couldn't see any yellow shorts on the podium

Great weekend.

Who were the place getters in the comp?

What are those black and white boards?

I though the kite surfing was the main event? Gee those yellow shorts were fast. We see how the surfing comp goes next time.....

Apart from a few of the kitesurfers that was the worst display of kitesurfing I have seen at Robe, if thats the main event might aswell cancel it next year.
Next time hey.... I've heard that before

Seems Gilles is getting used to becoming the bridesmaid. Finished second yet again in the Championship of the Universe this weekend. All came down to the final wave of the day. Both got on the same wave with BryBro going right and Inty going left and taking the title with a series of sharp turns and powerful off the lip maneuvres. The cherry on the sunday was riding the whitewater backwards with a 1440 paddle twirl which sent the spectators on the beach into a frenzy.

Gilles was last heard mumbling something about winning the SA titles in a couple of weeks as he left the beach carrying the new champs paddle.

Looks like good fun. Any plans for the Robe festival weekend in Nov? Surf SUP or DW.

There's plans for a wave and speed comp in Beachport in October - windsurfing and SUP

Its a hoot of a weekend - coffee's at Bompers, SUPn or windsurfing in the arvos and beers at the pub. Great family weekend.

See the SA windsurf calendar for details
