After a long, cold winter the first race for the Victorian 2012/13 season gets underway this Sunday 14th October.
A revised BOP format will consist of 4 short races on a 1.5km course which will be run back to back with a 5 min break after the final competitor completes the course.
A handicap system will be implemented to keep it fun.
Sunday's event is being run in conjunction with the HMB SLSC and will see some of their club members competing side by side with the stand up crew.
All people competing in the stand up paddle section must be a member of Sup Vic. Memberships can be paid online at www.supvic.com/join-sup-vic/
Event fee is a mere $10, [ payable on the day].
The long range weather forecast looks ideal with light variable winds and sun!
Sign on is at 8.30am, briefing at 9am, 1st race start at 9.15am.
There are no board restrictions, so come and paddle whatever you own or prefer.
Weather forecast is looking very kind for Sunday's racing. Light winds and 22 degrees.
Course map to follow soon.
1500m course map.
Lots of turns....FUN!!
Spectator friendly as the whole course can be seen from the beach
Importantly, any news on wether the Kiosk/cafe will be open or do I have to Caffeine and Bacon load before I get there
Big Thanks to RPS for organising the weather and getting the summer race season underway with a superbly run event.
Loved the course and the handicap system seemed to work well.
Thanks so much for that extra race at the end, I can't remember when I last felt this stuffed, oh yeah, after the October RPS event last year.
Cheers Mel
Race results and pix tomorrow.
Glad everyone enjoyed the handicap system.
Very pleasant change to have the weather co-operate for the first race of the Vicco season. It felt like summer today!
Thanks RPS for today's race's, it was great to meet all the guys up there and have a go at the racing. Also a big thanks to MJ for lending me his 12'6" Fanactic to race.
Cheers
Chris
Thanks PT
I had a ball today and it was great to ride a board that works. I've got a lot of training to do, before my fittness is where it needs to be. Looking forward to the summer of Sup racing and Sup Surfing.
Cheers
Chris
Well done Warwick on organizing such a great event, good format and also course design by Deano worked well for competitors and spectators, the summer season is underway...
good racing to all the crew who persisted in winter through all those icy mornings to build fitness, its all worth it and no worries Chris good to see a new contender on the paddling scene in Vicco.
the other thing I would like to see is all the other elite paddler blokes who seem to be aligned to other stores get in the mix of each others Summers events to raise the level of competition in Victoria, do it for the Big V, as Teddy would have said....
Great event and really nice race length and course.
Couple of pics taken from my iphone so not great quality.
Great shots Mark.
Well, as you can see from the previous shots, we were finally blessed with summer like conditions for the first race of the season. Not bad considering we're talking Vicco here and only 2 days earlier we received 15cms of fresh snow!
The handicapped race format worked well across the 5 races and saw some tight, close finishes across the intermediate and advanced paddlers as well as the ski paddlers.
A field of 40 paddlers turned up for the race which must be a record for the season opener.
Cam Hosking and Luke French went race for race and ended up tied on 2 races a piece, so it was decided to hold a 5th and deciding race. Luke just pipped Cam on the line by launching himself from his board across the line, they were only separated by cms. These two are in for some great tussles this season.
Thanks to all of the Sup Vic and HMB crew who helped on the day.
Results.
