Is anyone familiar with the SEA Paddle NYC? I was told there are some participants traveling from Australia to paddle this year. Anyone going? Here is more info :

Surfers’ Environmental Alliance is gearing up for its 4th annual SEA Paddle NYC. This year’s Paddle will be the largest to date, promoting an action-packed day aimed at raising awareness and funds for eight autism charities and SEA’s environmental projects.

SEA Paddle NYC 2010 will be held on Friday, August 13 beginning at 8:00 a.m. with a 28-mile charity Paddle and Elite Race around Manhattan. The event will come full circle later that day starting with the Ultimate Beach Party at 3:00 p.m. and the White Water Evening Fundraiser at 6:00 p.m. featuring live music, auctions, celebrity appearances, awards presentations and more at Manhattan’s eclectic South Street Seaport. The event will be catered by the legendary Harbour Lights Restaurant.

Since its inception in 2007, the Paddle has grown drastically in scope. SEA Paddle NYC 2010 is predicted to raise the bar on previous efforts, with an impressive fundraising goal of $300,000 in donations and corporate sponsorships; the number of paddlers is expected to double from more than 100 in 2009 to more than 250 anticipated paddlers in 2010. Charity beneficiaries will include Surfers Healing, Autism Speaks, Autism Family Services, Autism New Jersey, Best Day Foundation, Beautiful Son Foundation, Believe in Me School, and Parents of Autistic Children (POAC), as well as Surfers’ Environmental Alliance. Additional information about this year’s charity beneficiaries can be found by visiting www.seapaddlenyc.org.

SEA Paddle NYC 2010 will begin at Pier 45 between West 10th Street and Christopher Street in Manhattan and will conclude 28 miles later at the South Street Seaport, Pier 16. This year, for the first time, there will also be a 28-mile Elite Race featuring the world’s top stand-up and prone paddlers.

SEA’s 2010 Paddle will also boast a broader international presence, welcoming professional surfers and surfing legends, music personalities, actors and environmental activists. The international and national field of paddlers promises to be more diverse than previous years, with participants traveling from Germany, England, South America, Australia, Hawaii, California, Oregon, North Carolina and Florida to take part in this unique event. #8232;

NYC as a SUP place to visit? Why not.

I have a vague dream to GoPro myself SUP'ing in front of all the major landmarks in the great cities of the world... Westminster/Big Ben/Tower Bridge on the Thames; Eiffel Tower/Notre Dame on the Seine; Opera House/Harbour Bridge on Sydney Harbour; Statue of Liberty/Manhattan skyline on the Hudson or East River (???); the canals of Venice. So many places to see, so many waterways to SUP. It would be like "Where The Hell Is Matt", only dancing in an unco style on a SUP board.
