Rosscoe is teed up to fall across Cam's board again so that's the start line organised. Perhaps a mine field on the course. Or maybe depth charges.

SHQ Cruise to the Cerberus 28 March

Cerberus Update:

Possibility for a downwider:(Woohoo !)
If the wind is over 15 knots and mainly blowing from the North, we will consider running the Cerberus Race as a downwinder. From Sandringham breakwater past the Cerberus to Ricketts Point (Beaumaris).

The decision will be made in the early morning depending on conditions. Sign -up is still at the SHQ Kiosk at the bottom of Jetty Rd.

If we go ahead with the downwinder we will organise a car shuffle and use our Van to help transport gear back to Sandringham. Should be lot’s of fun !

C you there !

Forecast for Sunday

Overcast 31 degrees
Winds:Northerly 10 to 20 knots during the morning then increasing to 20 to 25
knots in the afternoon. Winds north to northwesterly 25 to 35 knots during the
evening. Seas: Below 0.5 metres increasing to 2 metres by the evening.

Latest forecast...

Forecast for Sunday
Winds: East to northeasterly about 10 knots tending north to northwesterly at 20 to 30 knots during the late morning before strengthening to 25 to 35 knots during the evening. Seas: 0.5 to 1 metres increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the afternoon then increasing to 2 metres by early evening.

So if the big NNW doesn't kick in until after 11am, I can sense another big downwinder post race or in the arvo. Who's up for it?

Spare me.

I know we would all like to control the conditions and I think most of us can all read the Bom website.

Here is a very up to the second very accurate forecast for the 0% of you that read the sup forum for irrelevant updates on the weather forecasts for this coming Sunday - it will be what it is.

Hey Woody,

Hope you do well in the race, try out the pigs ear if it becomes a down winder you might be surprised how well it works. Paddle it today and see how it goes.

I'm with you on keeping up to date on the weather as IMO it directly effects board choice including length, width and weight. The shaft length and blade area you will use particularly if your doing an up wind leg. The fin choice, depth, base area and rake for stability.

Also the course style and direction combined with the wind direction will directly effect all of the above.

The race was originally a there and back format, so changing it to a down wider will directly benefit those with less stamina as they wont have a 2 - 3 km push into the head wind.

Nice to have a plan defore you get there.

Have fun and take lots of pics.

Fingers crossed we get the light 10 knot nor east early because it only takes half an hour (for the faster guys) and maybe 3/4 hr (for the slower people) to run the race 'up to the Cerberus and back' before the stronger north wind kicks in.

After we hope to do a down-winder from St Kilda to Sandy for some (takes about 1 hr).. and maybe another group could do one from Green Point to Sandy (about 15-20 min) for those who are only new to it.

Either way it's going to be a great day and lots of fun.. .. and lots of give away prizes.. You just have to be in it to win it..

Brilliant, thanks Phill, I'll load up the pig's ear on the Pin for sure. Unfortunately I won't be racing as I hope to be in a 2-man canoe with my video camera. But I'll certainly be itching for a downwinder straight after the main events.

Cam and I are going to try and make it a Naish 17 one,two.. .. I might change my mind last minute and use the 14.. .. (with the down-winder in mind)

I wonder if Jonathan will have his new Starboard K15.. That could be the dark horse.. and then imagine Fireman Dave on the Pin.. Hmm interesting.. Also Hock using the Naish 14.. Also Rosscoe will be on a Naish 14.. Geez it could be anyone's race.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for today, as a new SUP'er everyone made me feel welcome and I was really happy to finish only having fallen off at the very start. The wife and the kids had a ball, thanks SUP Vic, SHQ etc: Great Day!!! Great sport!! Great people!! My kids are asking about the next one already, although I'm pretty sure they're more keen on the sausages than they are on the SUP's.

Don't normally notice them, but I'm with 62mac, there are some ridiculous red thumbs in this thread aimed at entirely innocuous posts. Why would anyone bother?

Nevertheless, fantastic day today, thanks to the crew from SHQ and everyone who came along - such a wonderful family of SUP'rs we have here in Victoria.
