Noosa Surfing Festival (from Jan and Feb newsletter)
This year our club is assisting with the SUPs Super Sunday. This will help promote our club in the region and more importantly give our members a 25% saving on entry fees. You will receive a seperate email from me with the special entry forms for this event that will include the clubs discount. YOU MUST be a financial member of the club to get this and yes they do have the list of names. It may be worth joining our club if you are not financial to get the discount :-)

Win a World Surfaris/Ocean Divine Maldives surf holiday
Quite simply, this is the best competitor draw prize we have ever offered. A week for two on the magnificent Ocean Divine, surfing the glorious atolls of the Maldives, flying in style with Singapore Airlines…I'm drooling as I write this, and it's all courtesy of Shaun Levings and his team at World Surfaris, and Ocean Divine. You can read all about it on the website. Remember, one person in about 450 is going to win this puppy, so the odds are better than Lotto, and you can earn extra chances in the draw by filling out the competitor survey (coming soon) or running up a loyalty account in the Beach Bar. There will also be plenty of fantastic consolation prizes including surfboards.
The big Maldives surf trip prize will be drawn at the presentations on Saturday 16th, but throughout the week we'll also be conducting a Happy Hour Bar Draw for surfboard prizes, so even if you've lost your heat, you can still be a winner at Noosa 13.
Surftech SUPS Super Sunday
Because in the past we've had complaints from the stand up community that they can't take time off work to hang around and watch surfing all week while their event is decided, we've dedicated opening day Sunday to the completion of three divisions of SUP surfing and the 5K battle of the paddle race on Laguna Bay, all presented by Surftech and co hosted by the Sunshine Coast SUPS Club. After the race, we'll complete the afternoon at First Point with the Crick's Celebrity Surf Off and the incredibly popular VetshopAustralia.com.au Dog Surfing Spectacular, ahead of our traditional sunset opening ceremony and party featuring the Band of Frequencies. It will be a great opening day and we urge all competitors to participate in the ceremony and paddle out.
i heard a rumour that the bop is now going to be a SUPX event on steroids
50 turning cans with 5laps complete with a 3.5 km beach run each lap thru a tuff mudda style commando coarse complete with electrified tunnel to crawl thru rope swings vertical climbing walls and mud lots of glorious mud
and the spectators get to join in on all the action this year
as stations along the run leg have areas which people can throw things at competitors just so everyone can feel apart of the action. with 16 tonnes of monkey poo being donated by the wonderful people at Australia Zoo things might get a bit interesting.
stay tuned for more updates as they come in
Okay, here is the informations for the race format.
There has been a lot of erosion on Noosa Main Beach (as with the rest of Qld). Due to this it will be decided on the day as to the length of beach used in the race. At this stage you will need a caddy to assist with your transition of your board as the run will be without your board.
The course will be a "M" shape and there is a strict strict strict no run policy down first point.
The start will either be a short beach run or a standing water start depending on the day and condition.
Leg ropes are not compulsory from the organiser at the moment but bring one as if condition necessitate one for risk management, you will then require one.
Distance will be approximately 5km (5 x 1km laps)
Boards will need to be measured and signed 2 hours prior to the race.
Please refer to the Noosa Festival of Surfing website for start times.
Tully StJohn is head race director with coordination with some advisors.
If you have any questions please post below.
Caddies. Too hard. Is there a way to change the course so you have to come in and not use one?
How do people travelling up get caddies?
Having a seperate mens and womens race is one answer.
something to consider.
I know Kaddys are hard, due to the limited number of people, however I think kaddys add an extra element to the event making it that much better!
What pete said about running mens and women's races separate is a good idea!
sorry in advance
to the 30 to 40 crew i usually caddy for in the bop race
I'm going to be in the judges tower sipping cold beer and slinging insults at you all on the mic
its a dirty job but someones got to do it
Cool. It would be good to have a few fit people there or jus pull some bikini girls off the beach....

Hey crew, this will be a mind blowing bop race, The point is 2-3 foot Perfection, dead glassy and Noosa is arguably the best venue in the world to do a bop race.
You would be mad to miss this one?
Good to see all you fit guys and girls paddling like crazy yesterday in the BOP at Noosa. I've just posted a whole bunch of shots from the race at www.facebook.com/surfshotsnoosa I tried to get photos of most competitors so hopefully if you were in it, I have some of you. Feel free to check them out. Cheers Dave.
