Was wondering if anyone could advise of good SUP locations North of Perth... Have only just started up and could really use some pointers. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated

I am sure Doggie and Legion would be happy to provide you with a few spots!!!

On a more serious note I am sure that some of the WA boys on here will give you the heads up........anywhere where there is waves and no crowds is probably the best place to start though. It may mean you have to settle for some banks that are not as nice as others but its best to keep well away from other folk until you are more than competent - and that will not happen over night.

Hope you enjoy your new interest.

Apparently the Spot near Yanchep has it all - good waves, not crowded, friendly locals, love SUPs.

Doggie and Legion will do all the necessary introductions.

Welcome to the Breeze Kaela.

Will Private Message you some potential spots as some people get a bit up themselves when you list surf spots.

Even though any spot in Perth Metro area is clearly not a secret.

I pretend I'm a local there, like everyone else. Drop in, scream obscenities, throw a few punches and you'll fit right in too.

Actually, it would make a good SUP location. Either out the back on the right on the bombie, or several 100m down the beach on the less popular breaks. I'd hate to be the one to pioneer it on a SUP though and I'd hate to pull up at the carpark with a SUP. Try it on a Saturday or Sunday midmorning.

I'm sure in 5 years it'll be completely overrun with SUPs up there. It's ideally suited to them except if it's maxing out, and the demographic midweek is mostly perfect SUP material.

Nice work naming it though. Sure, it's no secret but it's a long way to go when you rock up to 50+ of your best mates in the water and cars out to the main road. Midweek. The resources boom ruined midweek surfing.

There are still "secret" spots in the metro area, or at least spots that fade from consciousness. E.g. there are spots that I don't surf often due to crowds, conditions, etc, but you can pick your day and time and get them uncrowded if you don't follow the herd. E.g. two winters ago the beach near my house was cranking on and off all winter if the swell was right and the sand stirred up enough. And often I was the only one within 100m+ if not the whole beach. And on a weekend. That's why I try not to name spots.

Actually you were the first to name it another thread, so congratulate yourself.

Really? I thought I said something like "your namesake location", referring to a poster. Of course, it was obvious to everyone who knows it already but maybe not if you don't (e.g. if you were the OP). At least not as obvious as directly naming it, when afterwards a neophyte can google search and find where all the morons discuss it online.

There are plenty of spots to SUP in Perth other than the usual over crowded breaks.
The beauty of SUP is that you can now look outside of the square.

Here is a taste of what you could find.
After reading this thread I couldnt help but think of the fun that Miller and I have had surfing less than perfect knee high surf in Perth.
Yes these waves are in Perth and no one surfs them!
Im not saying that they are epic waves or double over head, just saying that there are plenty of places to explore and these photos are only from a handful of spots that Windy Miller and I go to get away from the circus.
Enjoy

Hows this for empty surf in Perth!!!

places like the spot are the reason I'm getting into SUP. Greenroom is onto it. He tried to get me into this about three years ago but I had my head up my a%^&. I'm hanging out to spend some otherwise unsurfable summer days getting wet without the nonsense from spot "locals". Is Yanchep Hawaii now?

The Spot has been known and crowded for decades now. About fifteen years ago

someone dumped a car body across the track. The first four wheel drive that came

along bushbashed its way around it and it was business as usual. However Tracks

magazine (for some reason) reported the fact that the track was blocked. For

about six months it was a joy. The hoardes stayed away and it really was pretty

much locals only. The track is now a road and you would be hard pressed to block

it. Maybe just ringing Tracks magazine and telling them would be enough? The

outside bombie would be ideal for SUP's. Not many used to ride there once with

most preferring the main break.

Whew, I thought you guys were talking about the other spot. I never surf there unless I can get it mid week but that is rare.

See, doggie didn't know even though it was clearly mentioned.

I surfed there a bunch midweek last winter and rarely got less than 10 people and even then for short periods, more often 15-20+. The neighbouring peak was an alternative, but it's a lesser wave in all aspects. If a swell was forecast the carpark would overflow, sometimes the second carpark too. Tradies, FIFO workers and govt surf team members. I'm too scared to go there on weekends, although it'd be interesting just to watch the carnage.

I'm not going to have to go there this winter because there are going to be storms and swell and the metro beachbreaks will work unlike last winter's permanent high pressure system. Uh-huh.

I go there before going to other spots as an indicator more than anything! Ive had some great waves but not worth the hassle imo. Few cars have been burnt out there in the last couple of years.
Two rocks boardriders seem to think they own the place so I generally go elsewhere. I shouldnt say that as spot is one, but its the truth. Plenty of other great waves in the area!!

Engine's OK as it turns out, so I'm going to sell it stock and build a new turbo diesel hybridy thing with an engine swap in a newer vehicle. That's the plan anyway.

Was the guy ripping it to shreds? Then it must've been me. Nah, we'll never meet because I'm a midweek warrior and doggie's a weekend warrior. I'm less interested on weekends unless I can find an unusual location or circumstance.
