Thanks to SUPWA for organising a great event today, special thanks to all the sponsors who backed the event, & props to all who raced either competitively or socially. A sensational event with heaps of great crew at the Tradewinds afterwards....
We took 400 snaps today. PM me if you want a copy of your efforts....
Thanks again SUPWA....can't wait for the next one.
Juddy & Nat.
Haha! .. just beat me too it Juddy.
Great race, great organisation, and weather was 100% perfect.
Everybody had a ball, and a real great social crowd, great vibe.
More photos from a different perspective.
The First Annual Bridge The Bank was a fabulous success, thanks to all that participated and assisted. We had 50 paddlers on the day, 25 teams, the largest number of SUP paddlers ever in an event in WA!
As you can see from the photos (Thanks Juddy and Laurie) it was a glorious spring day and there were smiles all round.
The results were:
Mixed Open:
1. Ashlea Hall & Ben Tardrew
2. Michelle England & Dale Chapman
3. Sophie Goodwin & Roger Goodwin
Open Men:
1. Kevin Kemp Smith & Cam McKay
The results above were calculated using the combined board length formula which certainly switched things up a bit and made it interesting.
The fastest overall (before the handicap was applied):
1. Michelle England & Dale Chapman

Special thanks to the Commonwealth Bank.
Also to John from SOS Surf and the Tradewinds hotel for their support and great prizes.
Special mention to Belinda from Morrison in Fremantle for the clothing vouchers.
Thanks also to Cam and Luke for putting on such a great event. Ian Grose for the use of his boat and assisting with timing. Jade, Jen and Eve for also assisting with timing and the great SUPWA committee team!
Really awesome day!
What a fantastic day and everyone that I spoke to said they really enjoyed it. A few of the women actually said they found it quite 'empowering' to know they can now paddle 5km without it killing them. So I think the womens division is in for quite a substantial increase in numbers and a few plans were made for more social/fitness paddles.
I have to thank Luke Jenkins and Greg Kerr for their help in organising the event, but I think regardless of how well it was organised the weather played a major role. Sunny, 29-30' and a slight tail wind only problem was that the dolphins showed up half an hour early to the start line. Thanks to all the volunteers who also helped out on the day.
It was great to see such a response and turn out to the presentations which helps in building the social community of SUP in WA. Infact some were so social they were still there almost 6 hours after the race had finished!
Thanks to Juddy and Laurie for the photos and if anyone has others please feel free to post them on our fb page: www.facebook.com/StandUpPaddleWA?ref=hl
Thanks again and congratulations to all who paddled making it WA's biggest event, see you all at the next SUP 5000 on October 20, another unique event developed by the SUP WA crew and get the kids ready as we will be having a kids division as well.
Cam
Thanks to all super day heaps of fun looking forward to the SUPWA 5000 now and all the other races SUPWA is in good hands
That's a great shot with the synconised Tardrew boys!
Pete, beating those two Bakewell 8's (yachts) is a pretty good effort, especially under spinnaker.
Where is my breakfast with a view shot Luke????
Some unreal photos coming out of the weekend, some even look photo shopped.
Great Photos Luke and Judy and many thanks for everyone's support on the day so we could just relax and enjoy the race. Looking forward to returning the favour one day. Will get the dust off my camera and big lenses too.
A few minutes after that photo was taken I had another yacht on a tac thinking about calling starboard on me. I had a chat about it with the crew instead as they went past and I went around behind. They were racing but still friendly. Kinda strange to be nearly matching speed with much bigger vessels though.
I guess Cam and Marcus had a Similar experience.
PCK
Thought I would throw this up for anyone who is interested. I know Stimo had a top speed of 16km/hr on his 16ft DC with a bit of help from a boat wake, unfortunately I didn't get any assistance from boats. My problem was I was paddling up hill with an apparent elevation gain of 129m!
