Check this out..A group of SUP'ers just padded across Lake Tahoe..It's about 22 miles (35 klms)..and they're looking at making it a yearly event.

It's great to see Dave Kalama was one of them and also great to hear his voice in the vid..What a guy..I got to meet Dave Kalama at the Mambo a few years ago.

Also interested to see at least one of them was using the new Naish 11'4" like mine..I have found that it paddles even better than the classic 11'6".

It seems to have even better glide..maybe due to the slightly lower nose and because there is less board above the waterline it's not effected as much by wind.

Check out the vid...and here's a couple of pictures of my 11'4" that I took during my paddle yesterday.

DJ...

This past weekend was the second annual Ta-Hoe Nalu SUP race. I competed in the stock division (13' and under) with an 11'2 Starboard and was summarily humbled. Chuck Patterson with Hobie won the Unlimited Division (14' and over).
There were definitely some Naish's out there, but I wasn't sure if they were the 11'4 or 11'6. I lean towards the latter. The event had a lot of Arrow SUPs as Bob Pearson is one of the founding members. Other boards I saw were C4, Bark, ULI, Hobie, Angulo, and of course Surftech boards (Lairds, Takayama Alii, and Robert August Wingnut). I had the only Starboard. I don't have pics, but hopefully the site will update the gallery soon.

It was a really cool event with a great vibe. Hopefully some Aussies can make it this way for next year. I think my wife was the only Aussie present.

Thanks SC11...That 7 mile event must be a different thing to the 22 mile thing that the guys in that vid did..?

Congrats to you and your wife doing the TA-HOE-NALU and jeez that's a huge turn up.. 34 last year and 102 this year..and great to see that 21 were women.

Looks like you had great weather for it.. ..Did you notice anyone using the new Naish Glide?..(it's white and with a pointy nose and tail)

Hopefully some of you guys can make it downunder in November for the Mambo....Here's a pic from your lake event.

Hey kudos for finding a pic of the event DJ!

The conditions were superb. No major breezes or winds to contend with. Slight texture heading back to the finish line primarily due to boat traffic. Race was supposed to start at 8 am, but we didn't actually start until closer to 9 (allowing more of the boaties and waver runner types to wake up). Water temps were not cold either. It was refreshing to to take a dip.

Unfortunately I don't think there was a Glide as the Naish boards I saw had full rounded noses and rounded tails. I'd love to SUP Oz especially West Oz where my wife's from. I see some forum members have surfed Scarbs, Rotto, Cottesloe, Port Hedland, etc. If I don't make it out there in the near future, I'll definitely be there for retirement. That's still a good 10-15 years away, however.

Cheers,
