Are there any SUPers in Canberra? Can you SUP in the dams in the ACT or the Malongalo river?

Go and see Scotty at Wetspot in Fyshwick, he will point you in the right direction.

You could SUP on the lake, pretty much anywhere. There are some rowing courses set up in the western side of Yarralumla bay near the Governer Generals. SUP on the lakes at Tuggeranong or Belconnen would also be possible. Both cop pretty gusty winds at times. The other thing to remember now would be the cold, you really don't want to fall in during winter.

If there are any SUPers in Canberra, I can assure you they will be hibernating til October. Too bloody cold.

You should hook up with the High Country SUP Group!

Cougar Bait and Big Tall are the Team Riders in Canberra; they run a Sunday Social Paddle every week leaving from Monlonglo Reach (in front of the Burley Griffin Canoe Club Boat Shed) at 0800 and they paddle to Regatta Point. They usually have a coffee at the Deck Cafe and head back to the Reach by 1000. Any first timers or beginners usually turn up at 1000 for a try out/practice session. Joining and paddling with the group is free, as is having a try outpractice paddle at 1000.

High Country SUP is on facebook; just search for the group and request to join!

No Way Scotty! Here is a quote from the High Country SUP Group page:

'Dedicated to the Stand Up Paddleboarder (SUPer) that paddles regardless of the lack of waves, presence of snow or murkiness of the water!'

That's great to see such a high level of dedication to Sup. I just checked the overnight temp at minus 1 degree. That's tough stuff. I recall that Seinfeld episode up in the Hamptons. George Costanza experienced significant "shrinkage". I am sure you could relate to this. Those hot showers after the paddle must feel good.

mmm, as Mr Miyagi said, come on Sunday to Molonglo Reach (across the road from Plant Road, Duntroon) where the Burley Griffin Canoe Club has their boat shed at 8 am on Sunday and have a paddle. Let me know if you are keen. Cougarbait (co-founder High Country SUP)

Chrispy, you know we call him that because he really is so popular with ladies of a certain age. We haven't been ale to work it out ... Cougarbait reckons it's because they are only human ... I think it's because they don't see so well ...
