Am about to get a new car AND a SUP .

Anyone manage to get their board into their car/ wagon?

Anyone fit a 10"6' to 11" in a Ford Mondeo?
Am I "dreamin'"?

Hoping to put SUP in car on days when I'm going out on my own, sans family
i.e. 5 days out of 7 opportunity.

Had a go getting board onto Pajero roof, but struggle with even when board only ~11kg (weedy, girlie arms yet to be improved by SUPing).

No SUVs.
Forester nice, but too small for 6"1' son in back seat.
Husband's car which is great if want more adventure.

Current car is VW Golf hatch.
Don't want to put racks on older car I'm about to trade.
Golf actually fits more gear seats down than Pajero 4WD due cargo barrier in 4WD.

Thanks

Have been through this recently.

If you get a wagon where the front passenger seats fold forward its helps get big boards in without them getting in the way while you are driving and also does not obscure vision out rear view mirrors.

The only current cars I could find that do that are all the Volvo wagons and I know you said no 4 wheel drives but vw Tiguan and some Audi Q5

You dont have to worry anymore that 8'0 JP is a shortboard.

Yeah, but I was still able to use it as a justification to get a nice new wagon!

I have a Fanatic Fly 10' which fits into my Subaru Liberty wagon OK, but would only leave it inside when parked, not when driving. Anything smaller should be OK.

Don't think a 10'6" would fit into a Mondeo wagon, but you could roll up to a Ford dealer and pull out a measuring tape and see.

Lifting SUP's onto a 4x4 or a SUV is an effort, much easier onto a wagon IMO.

Good luck.

My 9'2 Allwave fits nicely in a Commodore wagon. Not much room to spare so I'm pretty sure a 10' board wouldn't fit.

It's a 2003 car which looks to be bigger inside than a new model Commodore as well.

i can get a 10' in my ford mondeo wagon, i reckon you could get a 10'6" in as well but that would be the limit.

roof racks and locking straps are the answer. My opinion only :)

My 9'3 PSH fits in my Yaris hatch, with a bit of creative work to shut the tailgate

Probably not helpful but:

Get a Golf convertable.

Lie the front passenger seat back, drop the roof, easy to load the sup into the passenger seat and have it hang over the boot. Secure SUP with the seat belt. Easy!

Put 'California Girls' on the sterio and away you go.

Not real good for wet days, but then again you're unlikely to be sup'n in the rain... ;)

I can fit (just) a JP 10'2" in my VT Commodore wagon.
Mate tried a 10'6" Naish Nalu in his X5 and it did exactly what was pictured with the cracked windscreen earlier!!!

My Toyota Hi Ace SLWB fits as many boards as I want up to and including 14' race boards and I still fit a full queen bed in there.

Looks like roofracks for new car, just in case.

Might try taking the board bag to a dealer to get a better idea

Have been driving < 1km to water with a 10"6' board in bag hanging out the back of my VW Golf, nose to windscreen.
No cracked windscreen. Bag helps and tight fit, so doesn't move.
Hatch tied to tow point with rope; pool noodle + foam for protection.
Paddle protected by old tennis racquet cover.
How (un)cool am I?

Anyone tried those soft type "roofracks" for their board?

VW Transporter SWB. Fits an 11' board in now worries (due to the step through between the front seats) And all the other gear you could ever want, drives like as close to being a car as you will ever get from a van. And the diesel uses bugger all fuel.

Oh and mine is for sale

Thx.

In case anyone else looking, checked out the new Mazda 6 wagon....
Headrests come off, easy fold back seats, fits 30"wide between front seat (provided you don't have big, boofy shoulders).
270cm length from dash to back of car.
Fiddly to get out all the rack bits at back of wagon.

Got a 2nd hand Hobie Sumo 9"10' board

Totally agree with the roofracks, just didn't want to fit them on car planning to sell soon.
Soft racks not great due to one of those "bee sting" aerials off the back of roof sticking out.

Yes, the 80's Corvette works if you're one up.

Golf is still good for 2 up.

May fit through the drive through if I swap out the 14' race board and swap in the surfer-SUP!

I have a mondeo wagon and just put a tape measure into it. I think you would get away with 10'6" Not much more.
