Yesturday was a treat. Not many waves breaking anywhere on the northern beaches. In fact, after driving from Trigg to Mullaloo, the only spot breaking bigger than knee high, was Mettams.
It was like the SUP club had come out of hiding. It was great to see about 7/8 SUP surfers dominating the line up.
The handfull of longboarders were not happy campers at all.
In saying that, and going along with the other thread on ethics, we all hung back on the shoulder and gave the grumpy old men room.
We also started to mingle in with them but they didnt really want to talk to us. Their loss.
One old boy on the yellow Mctavish even told me I wasnt gonna get onto a wave we were both paddling for. You should have seen his face, and heard his potty mouth, when the wave picked me up on my trusty Starboard 11'2 and he was still paddling his ring off!
We shared many waves, kept our distance, let many set waves pass us by while hooting, laughing and smiling the whole time doing it.
It was good to swap boards with Louie. Thanks mate. Hope we can surf together again soon.
And to the bloke on Millers old Naish, sorry for going off at you when you crashed into my board. It was good to see your young bloke ripping it up on his Starboard 9'8.
And not to mention Gazza on the Sport Tech 11'2 giving the place a good flogging. It was his second time on a SUP board and it looked like he had been doing it for months! So when is the big purchase? Hehehe.
All up the vibe was great and we got people educated and to loosen up and respect fellow wave lovers no matter what we use.
I was talking to Hawkie after about how lucky we are in this country. There are people around the world who are starving or killing each other. We dont need to fight over a metro wave in Perth!? We are blessed.
Anyone else got some good tales to tell from yesturday Metts session?
On the Stirling council website it reads:
Mettams Pool is very popular with for those keen early morning swimmers, as it has a protected rock pool situated inside a protecting reef. Away from the pool area itself, the open part of the bay is a popular location for surfers, particularly longboarders. The often full waves provide a great wave for the longboarders to show off their skills.
Its now gonna read:

It was good fun! When Greeny and I paddled out with Miller and his mate there was only one longboarder in the water. It is kind of frustrating when others arrive much later and then give you attitude. Surely they could see a few sup's out already when they arrived. Then they can either choose to join in and share the waves and all have a good time or decide to look else where.
this place works ok with 4/5 crew....
even better with no crew
put 20 tankers out, carnage and grumpiness will be on the cards....but u still get a few waves, just need to have your wits about you and take a few deep breaths.
gr8 day
Haha as far as im concerned bad luck for the lonboarders they have been burning everyone for years... funny thing Karma
Any shortboarder who has been converted to SUP will say the same
Why arent you out there single boy Miller? You have 1 week left!
If I were you I would be down south
heading off to A*****S at midday.....for fish/sup/cold beer.....aaahhhhh the single life
not long left now, better make the most of it....
thinking of windsurfing rotto on wed/thur....could be on,,,if the forecast stays true....need to get a bike trolley sorted....keen
I had a great time. Surprised how easy going and supportive the locals were on a newbie invading their space. Given some great advice.
Spent more time in the water than out and managed 2-3 very shaky waves. Thanks again greenroom for letting me try the 11'2. Nice board.
