Every new idea can bring some controversy.
Double blades paddle, multi hull board....already banned from most races.
What do you think of this one.
A fixed strap that allows you to reach a bit further.
That's happening in France. At the moment it is still authorised as there is no written rule against it. The guy using it is full of ideas and in a way we need people like him for the sport to progress.
I would just like to have the feeling of everybody. Right or Wrong ?

Further to previous, I don't like it. It's in the "NOT IN THE SPIRIT OF THE GAME" category. What next ? Winged keel ?

The new French version of the Powerband very good question Alain ????? don't know the answer it's just an extension of a leg rope. I can't see any real advantage but I have'nt tried it. Scooped decks , rudders , massive double concaves are all OK can't think of a technical reason to ban this.

maybe helping with stability wich is a big part of the general fatigue on a long distance paddle

What happens if you need to move forward to push over a bump ? personally I don't like it , whether it helps with stability it still won't reduce the pressure on your legs it will probably increase the pressure in the long run , again only assuming.

I'd like one from the front as well.

That would mean I could only fall left or right reducing my falls by 50% ..

technically i can't see any hip shoulder diagonal movement/ rotation working with that rope. it would be straight ahead arm paddling i would think

morally or in the spirit of supping well -its a big no no imo,

but then i think the same about foot straps on sups-----unless you are getting sup towed in at mac speed
cheers

If it helps the paddler then probably should be banned for races.
But if it's available to everyone and it helps as far as technique
goes and prevents injury then it could be OK.

Some paddles would definitely be faster than others, and some
boards are faster than others but are aren't forced to use one design.

Like AA said, looks gay!

If it works then everybody can use it.

If it doesn't then who cares? We can laugh at the guys who are doing it.

It also gives a long leash that doesn't drag in the water.

Sup is all about engaging the core. Buggered if I know what this would do for the core. Probably cause your body more harm then good. I say do it at your peril or embarassment.

I think it should be legal as long as competitors are allowed to sharpen their paddle blades on an angle grinder so as to cut through that rope at an opportune moment.

I was thinking the same thing with bayonets on the paddles.. Sneak up from behind and watch the face-plants happen..

The bloke in the picture would probably gain a greater advantage by straightening his bottom arm than this bum leash.

It is slightly ironic that SUPers, the lepers of the sea, are hanging it on guys using bum leashes because it looks funny.

I predict that the bum leash will disappear because it probably doesn't do anything useful ... and it looks funny.

If it works (ie. I can paddle my SUP up to planing speeds) then I'll have a red one please.

its just a slightly different leash. I dont see a problem. If you're going to ban this you may as well ban coiled leashes that dont drag in the water as well

This thing seems counter intuitive to me. Old mate has this ass about IMO.

When you watch the really fast guys paddle they lean forward for the reach but they also keep the nose up with their feet and also use the paddle angle to lift the nose of the board which gets it up on top of the water and running. The more lift, the closer to planing, the faster you go.

This bum leash lifts the tail when you lean against it in effect pushing the nose down making you slower I reckon. It also puts your body in the wrong position.

If this worked it would be from the nose where you sit back with your butt and then lean forward to paddle from the waist. This would be much more like the action in an outrigger canoe as you brace from the front with your legs. The nose leash would lift the nose and you could drive more off your legs with them forwards rather than back like this.

Maybe I just created the fastest addition to SUP. The sitting while your standing SUP.
