Hey everyone,

Great site and great forums, lots of good info for a relative newbie to the sport.

I have a question though that doesnt seem to be answered on here yet.

HAs anyone experienced their paddle shaft getting greasy and slippery?

Just noticed after the last few surfs it feels quite slippery.

Its a GSI carbon paddle and shaft.

Thought it might be wax so I rubbed some foam dust on it, but no difference. (helps get wax off a board really well)

so maybe its oil from my skin or something.
Any suggestions?

cheers

Same paddle and same problem - it seems to me if I let it dry out properly before bagging it it doesn't seem to happen and I make sure all the sunscreen is washed off my hands as well - seems to be OK after paddling for a while - I could be wrong and the drying out was coincidental

one thing is to make sure you get all the sunscreen off your hands before you use the paddle. also i have found the qb shafts can get slippery with sweat, so i'll dip it in the water now and then on a hot day, that seems to take care of it

Best thing for a slippery shaft is to air it out

Paddle grips work great and feel luxurious.

I rub the shafts and blades down with a piece of 400 grit wet and dry paper. Most paddles have a clear coat applied over the top, even when they are grippy they feel slippery to me.

The 400 gives it a Matt finish and a much better grip that I like as well, shiny surfaces are always slippery no matter how you slice and dice it.

I just use sand or dirt with water , Rub my hands together and it seems to fix slippery

shaft problems.

great question azza.

I hate it when sunscreen gets on the handle...

I'll try the wax first then the 400 and if that don't work I'll amp up the expenditure and get the C4 grip..

Frogs don't like to spend money unless they have too

Thanks everyone for the advice.

I gave the sand paper a go and it seemed to do the trick.

will try some wax if it continues to happen
