Just got my youngest a custom for his 12th birthday, he is small for his age but has the heart of a lion He has been using the Naish 8'0" but at 85+ litres it is way too much board for his 38 kilo frame. With this in mind he now has a DTM custom 7'0" x 25". Not so short but very low volume at approx 55 litres with surfboard thickness rails and a domed deck.

We just had a week down the south coast and his surfing has improved 100% already as he can bury a rail much more easily and at around 4.5 kilos gripped and finned he can chuck it around more easily. My other concern was the weight of the Naish which at around 8.5 kilos was a worry if it smacked him in the head.

Anyway he has had it in everything from 1 foot glass to serious 5 foot (10+ faces) reef surf with strong winds and so far is loving it. It's amazing watching kids improve particularly his paddling & board handling skills. He can now spin the board multiple times on the spot in flat water cause the tail sinks so easily. Here's some pics:

Nice one goatie, good to see the groms into it.

My 11 year old daughter (about the same weight) paddles my 6'6" fish about its 23" wide and ~45 litres. Hasnt had it in waves yet might be to tippy for her.

Hey any suggestions for kids steamers, getting to that time of year, after something strechy as she hates the standard cheap inflexable spring suits.

cheers

Not yet Lacey but keen to try prone paddling it with a paddle stuffed under my gut, there is no way I could stand on it.

Hey Shunter get your daughter a sealed suit for winter and she will be much keener.

Hilly get a local shaper to whip up a little shooter for your lad, its just a fat shortboard. Robbie just loves the SUP gets so many waves even in difficult surf, p!sses off his older siblings

Both grom and board look great. Looks like he is ripping already.....watch out!

So, what's with the non-green DTM? Is the junior range of DTM's going to be white, perhaps?

Billabong do a Foil wettie that my 7 year old has been wearing the past year (second one),

http://www.jackssurfboards.com/products/full-spring-suits/542/MWFUQFB3-LS10/billabong-foil-302-back-zip-gbs-wetsuit-boys-

My 10 year old wears Excel X-Flex and Infiniti versions:

www.jackssurfboards.com/products/full-spring-suits/542/KB32Z2C14/xcel-infiniti-x-zip2-comp-32-fullsuit-kids

Happy with both-my kids surf daily, so the wetties do tend to get a lot of use and not last too long.
