I did this as an experiment. Came out pretty cool. Even got a 3 finned turtle in there...

Thanks for the second vid Blane. (catching a small wave).

It's amazing how much air gets forced under the board.

I'll have to get Jonathan to mount his GoPro to the fin of his new Pene so we can see what it looks like..

Do you have a pic of what the mount looks like?.. or is it just suckered to the bottom of the board?

Also.. What's going on with the Zone?.. any idea?.. It seems to have been down for ages now or is it just me?

Nice video. Cool music. The air cushion under the board is interesting. I wonder how you could promote that effect?

Beautiful stuff.

I tried doing that a while ago but our water isn't nearly as clear, beautiful or interesting as yours (at least not where I went).

Great to see the turtle - and a three finner at that (I wonder if Simon Anderson knows him).

I guess it would be easy enough to tape a lipstick-cam on the bottom of a board. Maybe use the tape to blend the entry and exit shape of the cam into the bottom. We could see the fins doing their thing in various conditions.

For research purposes it would be very cool to glass a board with holes passing through so you could mount the cam at varioous points to watch the uinderwater flow.

Excellent Blane.. That was great.

I wish I had of thought of doing this back when I was testing windsurfer designs for slalom racing.. That would have been really interesting.

But underwater cameras were the size of a house brick back then..

Even the little Go Pro has a lot of drag. I made a really solid center fin mount but even then in bigger waves I'd be afraid to try it. I think it's doable to double overhead. Anything bigger would be asking for a severe pounding.

Tomorrow, I'm sending the fin with Austin and Allen Mozo to the Galapagos islands. They are going to paddle over all kinds of crazy sea creatures and report back later!

Looking forward to the results of that!

Here's my attempt at it, from back in January (not nearly as interesting as Blane's):
