Sorry to say but that is a really dumb idea, all kinds of hurt waiting to happen with that. Probably a better idea would be to learn to ride steeper slopes where you do not have to pole along!
What a waste of time.
It makes the guy so twisted up and over rotated its not funny, which it normal terms, its giving him less control.
SUP in water, yes i get it!
But why ruin simple things like skate and snowboarding??
Looks interesting for sure!
It could help beginner riders in the deeper stuff keep their balance.
Early to mid 90`s had some similar tools for the beginner plate/hard boot riders to help lay it over at slower speeds.
That looked aweful. Terrible style and no flow at all. Certainly put his snowboarding technique back years. I bet you wouldn't find one snowboard instructor in the world who would recommend that to help you progress.

are you saying snowboarding has a technique
I just got back from Perisher and can't believe how much fun this stick was! Sorry..I didn't GoPro it as I was having too much fun in the powder. Highly recommended. Look, I wouldn't jump with it, but, it was awesome for backhand turns and great for forehand turns in flatter terrains. Looks like being a great snow season, too! As with all things in life , if you are going to be stupid, well you are inviting trouble.......

Good point but I'm sure surfers said that about us in the beginning..
I guess it depends on your board type and your technique.. I use a race board with hard boots and tend to keep my shoulders facing downhill rather than side on.. I can imagine big hard GS type turns would feel awesome having something there to lean on as long as it doesn't dig and catch.. It would be great for the flat spots on the home trails.. No more scootering..

How funny that some of you think it is waste of time. What about on a skateboard? The idea behind snowboarding was that it was going to be a way for surfers to have fun in the snow and was driven largely by the guys at Burton in the mid seventies Some of the first prototype boards had little fins, concaves, had fixed boots etc etc. I was really good friends with a guy called Thor Prohaska who ended up on the Australian Snowboarders Association committee and may have been president of the snowboarders association for the first couple of years. Talked a lot about design using the tried and true snowboarders performance enhancing substance?? This stick is the first great idea that snowboarding has come up with since they realized that you couldn't have permanently fixed boots to the boards. . It's common sense. You could do Nordic snowboarding for exercise! !. Make it retractable and wear it over your shoulders when doing jumps, freestyle or slalom (It might help some of the older chaps) I'd say leave it off for half pipe!!!! If you can't see the benefit in this stick then you're not looking hard enough. I haven't had anything to do with snowboarding for over 30 years, but this seems like something that should have been developed along with the original design. Alpenstocks were far too dangerous to use for propulsion. Well done to the developers.
Great, so now I not only have to watch out for snowboarders side swiping me, but also swinging a broom around

Sorry dude, it is a bad idea on a skateboard as well as a snowboard, one of the best things about snowboarding over skiing is that you do not have to carry poles to get caught up in trees / lost in powder / dropped off the lift / tangled up in others / in the way when riding the park, and the list could go on forever.
We'll have to agree to disagree on this one mate! I believe that's still allowed? You missed the part about retractable and like all alpenstocks must have a wrist strap? Being of German/Swedish/Latvian extraction we are taken to the snow as soon as we can walk. I am a terrible skier and an awful snowboarder but I think this is a good idea. if you are that rich that you can afford to going skiing then you know how difficult it is to learn and expensive to do. Snowboarding is easier to learn, cheaper to afford, safer and IMHO more fun. (I used to pop my big toenails all the time.) It also doesn't require powder to become a world quality performer. Hey dude, , I'm not saying you're wrong.......have you ever tried snowboarding? I respect the fact you can make those two insane pieces of carbon fiber do what you want The best I could do was an impression of a chicken wishbone. Have fun freezing your nuts off this year. I'll go to a tropical destination, pay half the price and watch the Winter olympics go Steve Bradbury! ! Now that's how to win an Olympic gold medal
Cheers and apologies if I offended
First snowboard video I've ever seen where they didn't spend half the time sitting on their ass. Well done.
As a long time snowboarder I have to say nice try....but fail. Seems pointless and gets in the way of proper upper body rotation. Some boarders do carry a small extendable pole for big flat traverses but in a resort you don't need it. Going downhill at high speed it could be downright dangerous.
if your serious about your snow you should put in the hard yards and ski.
way more versatile, adapts to more conditions.
and for the thrill seekers skis go higher and gets more tricks and rotations in.
but its just typical of today attitude , everyone wants to be good straight away
however its been heartening to see a lot more kids in the terrain parks and half pipes on skis doing some amazing stuff
That's basically a "lurk". Comes from old-school telemark. Not a bad idea at all.
It's less awkward than this

This is gold! So appropriate for this thread

No worries everyone to their own opinion, yes I do snowboard, and have done around 350 days on snow all over the world, on everything from white concrete to chin deep snow, personally I do not see any use for holding a stick when riding a snowboard (expect for beating other snowboards up) even when hiking in the back country, where I use a set of collapsible poles.
As I say though, each one to his own opinion
It's not a paddle. It's not a SUPB. It's not the water. Why are we talking about it? Over and out of this thread. Another one I'm sad I commented on because some people still don't think you're allowed to have an opinion that isn't theirs. Not you Anton but the usual faceless men.
Interesting, but I think the idea should be refined to allow leveraging in turns. Currently the stick seems to stick in the snow instead of gliding like a paddle, which makes turning with it awkward and jerky.

i bet shortboarders said the same about SUP when they first saw it.
As experienced snowboarder thought I could add my 50 cents to this thread.
The snow paddle may be of advantage for beginners as stabilizer or as pushing aid in flat sections.
If you're keen to do cross country snowboarding I'd rather use cross country skiing poles or telescopic trekking poles.
I wouldn't use it on the ski slopes as you are most likely to get injured by falling on the pole, because you carry the stick across the front of your body and not like ski poles out the sides.
I'm sure I couldn't do those bodycarves with a snow paddle in my hands without stabbing my ribs!
