Rhode Island. Not far from New York.

I have a friend who lives and surfs in New York, cold as ice and very inconsistent. Gets up to Rhode Island regularly.

He said the overall level of surfing there is quite low but is one of those places remaining in the world where there is still a 'surf culture'. You know, Combi Vans, Bon Fires, Guitars, joints on the beach etc. When it gets good it doesnt last for long but can be as good as anywhere.

I also heard that Garrett can be a little greedy so the party waves you mention could well be the result of him taking every wave that came while he was there.

Looks like fun! Comments are all the same, the old "you're a dickhead, no you're a dickhead!"

Hey Robbie (Piros),
I am 110kg and I have a 10'10 Walden with the stepped deck. A fun board to ride, only problems with them is when you wipe out they are a prick of a board to turn around in the whitewash whilst you are off the board. Rails dig in big time!! Maybe just the Walden but it is hard to punch through larger whitewash walls on your way out, sssoooo buoyant. Surfs great though in all conditions although personally I am ready for a shorter board after demoing some with from Greenline after a recent Goldie trip. (Thanks again Scotty.)

PS Hope to see you at the High School Reunion mate in Oct.

Hey Steve: re the punching through waves less is best , the more foam in your board will always make it harder and more pulled nose and tail will also help.Make sure when you are about to try and punch over or through a white wash you are in surfer stance and you take your last stroke just before the wave hits your so your top arm is forward of your stroke so if the wave pushes your board back you can block it with your arm and it doesn't hit you in the head. Push down on your front leg , this helps pops the board over the wash.Keep your paddle down on the water to help with balance when you get pushed back and stay low , take the next stroke as soon as you can and keep the weight on your paddle to stop you going back , switch back to square stance as soon as you can and repeat for the next one , always keep up speed. Never let a wave hit you just standing there.

Practice in the small stuff and work your way up you'll surprised what you can get through and over. If you know you have no chance dive forward and deep then put your paddle out in front of you across your body with both hands on it so you are shaped liked the letter T this will help stop you from being being dragged back.

Yeah there was a whole thread on that on the Zone, I can't remember what the outcome was but I think there is another side to that story (normally is two sides)

I was at Dales shop this afternoon picking up a new SUP and Dale showed my this step deck he is working on. I thought it might be Piros's new board but now I know it belows to BJ. Looks great. Is it around 8'8"? Should have some fun on that board.

Yes its 808.
Plan was to put a negative camber carbon flex tail on it as well like on some short boards I have as per pic. Flattens out the rocker, making the board very quick, yet flexes up allowing reasonable carving turns with a bit of push when you come out of them
But they are hard to get the flex right and it looked so clean where Dale ended up with the channels and concave deck, left it for the next experiment

I see the new range of bonga perkins boards still stepped decks looking much much prettier than the ancient bonga 10ft (southpoint)
Plus have a longtitudinal stringer which for me is an attractive feature.

Other than wobbling around on my bonga 10 foot haven't got any industry attachments (I wish!!). But some interesting stuff http://www.southpointepoxy.com/index.php?cccpage=video_sm&set_z_movies=19
