RACE UPDATE SUNDAY 25th Briefing at 11:15 EDST.
The BOP Race on Sunday MAY be TWO not THREE digs out to sea ...
I Paddled it today in similar tides and the sandbank got in the way on the second leg so after clearing the river the first offshore buoy will be a 300meter paddle towards the reef .. Turn this Buoy then its a paddle and a surf across the north end of the sandbar (should be a 400+ meter ride ) to a flag turn in deep water South of the surf club .. then another 400 meter dig out to sea through one line of small breakers Turn this Buoy and a small paddle to the surf section where once again you should be able to get a ride all the way to the beach before a 50 meter run up the sand .. where you will carry your paddle..
This course should still be the same length but have a better surf section with ONLY two buoy turns, making it a better course for spectators ...
This is definite .... unless we change our minds !!
If anyone knows Mark Hatfield or Thomas Liztner can you remind them to check their emails they have been granted a pass through to the Amateur Semis on Saturdays afternoon ( check the website for times ) .. As I write this they have yet to confirmed they are available ...
Reminder All Amateurs and Women who entered in any event in the SUP ( thats SURF OR RACE ) You are eligible for the special prize draw of the Illusions Noosa Cruiser SUP and special prizes from Roar Industries ( I think its a QB paddle ) And I will say it again "to be eligible for these spot prizes, you must be present at the Trophy Ceremony Sunday Afternoon" .. If your not there its a re-draw and we all know what fun a re-draw is ! The trophies are good enough, the goodies bags are packed with SUP stuff and the Special draw from Our Sponsor Illusions Noosa Cruiser SUP not to mention the Roar Draw for Ladies and Amateurs makes it a bargain encrusted weekend of SUPing ... Your crazy not to have entered any event in the OPEN and your even crazier not to turn up to the Draw on Sunday afternoon.
At this time the BOP race and the River Race will be starting at Noon .. The Kind people who run the Open have granted us a hold in the Surfing Finals to watch the BOPers do their laps and finish unencumbered by those pesky longboarder Finals ... Candice has to paddle in the BOP as well as compete in the Single fin final which comes directly after the BOP race finishes .So She already Knows she cant dally around on the Course ..
At this stage and another paddle of the course confirms its going to be a two leg to sea course .... not the initial three leg course as advertised all last week ..

A few pics from today's semi-finals. Not much of a swell, but they milked the waves as much as they could -

Finals looked good today. They weren't giving scores because it is not a sanctioned event but I think Geoff and Beau were the standouts for me. Any of those guys could have won and it's so impressive to see them surf tiny waves. Hard to understand how Geoff milked those waves almost to the beach, he can sure paddle. I wonder if it will be as impressive on video. Beau really lays it over in his cutbacks. Wish I could have seen them on Thursdays bigger swell.
Done and Dusted ...

Thanks Sean for organising another fun event and also to Lyn and Scotty for helping out with the SUP events and keeping us all informed of what's going on.
Some one going to give a run down on how the race panned out? Was it a good format , did the local girls give Candice a run for her money?
haha
from up on the deck of the surf club armed with the pa mic and a pocket full of $2 coins for the binocular setup the race looked like it was a tough ordeal for all
(i didnt see the 5km river section as the rum and lemonade was way to good to pull me away from the bar)
the front runners were neck and neck till all the way to the end with little lincoln dews pulling away once he hit the sand for the 50m dash to the line.......he didnt even raise a sweat.....lol.....
candice gave most of the blokes a good lesson in paddling.....hahaha.......
and a big shout goes out to alison and elyse for taking on the mens pro division so they could charge it in and out thru the tricky surf zone and put on a solid display of getting pounded all to the cheer of myself and the peanut galley on the surfclub deck
i didnt hear anyone "complaining" apart from the lennox head grommet stoksey only cause he didnt get mouth to mouth resusitation from candice after being run down on the line by the destroyer geoff breen
going off to all the organisers of the event andto all the crew that took the time out to compete
rock on
bogman signing off..........yewwwwwwwwwwwww.....
Dogman found his new calling as a commentator and I don't think anyone was complaining! Best commentary we've had at a comp for a very long time!!!
media commitments......hahahahaha.......
nah.... i havent been in the best of health of late and my board was damaged at noosa by my person stunt double from jervis bay
tranlation.....the truth to the matter is i wooooosed out!!!!!!!!!!! way too hard core for tha bogman
Hi Crew,
A big Mahalo to all those that helped out, sponsored and surfed or raced in the event. Especially Lyn & Scotty P for their tireless efforts, Dogman for his antics with a microphone, Paul from Roar Ind, Mark from Quiver Kaddy, Rob from Illusions and the Surftech crew.
