I've contacted Surf Qld and updated the entry page, it should be clearer and easier the enter the right divison.
Just remember the:
Pro race is 12'6 boards and is 2xlaps 8.2k, with Open men & women, 40's men & women and 50's men
The: Island Challenge event is Unlimited or 14' foot boards and is 1xlap 4.1k, with 14' foot board: Open men & women. Unlimited boards: Open men & women, 40's men & women, 50's men, 60's men, and Junior boy & girl
We also have Ski, open men and women and Prone, open men and women.
Cheers Crew, only 25 days to go!!
gday
4.1ks on 14 and unlimited is a bit short?
good event. i own an unlimited board-dc 15'6, but there would only be a handful of unlimited around theses days. i would have thought having the age groups would be better suited to the 14' boards
Just think of the Pro race is like a giant BOP...........that's why it's 12'6.
The island challenge event is a great way for people to paddle around the iconic Old Woman Island in a safe and fun environment but racing with and against your mates!
"If you think one lap around the island is going to be easy you're kidding yourself"!!!
If someone wants to paddle the 2xlaps but doesn't have a 12'6 boards, no problems, very much welcome, I could try to organize a 12'6 board for you or we'll just open a new division on the day. " and if there's only one person, well you'll have a bloody good chance of winning".
I'm going to be superflexible to everybody's needs, if you have any queries or any questions let's sorted it out
Happy days, Jonesy
PS 24 days to go

Hey Lacey, To be honest with you the unlimited class is for people that just want to have a go, and paddling around the island is the challenge in itself.
It doesn't matter size, length, 10 xfoot surf sup or one guy has emailed me saying he's entering on his 20ft hand made wooden sup.
In your case Lacey, you've got plenty of boards to choose from?
didnt mean to sound like a wanker[ its to short or easy]
its just if the 12 6 guys are doing two laps why cant us old
14' foot tools do 2 laps

No problems mate, it was a good question.
Yes I agree with you, that's why I'm happy to put a extra division in on the day if you like.

that will make already 2 entries in this extra division
Ok looks like I stuffed up! And I think this could be a very popular division.
So Don't enter tonight, I'll ring surfing Qld tmw and put in a "Pro 14' foot division, open men".
And because it's in the pro division there will be a little bit of cash up for grabs!!
Cheers boys thanks for the advice

OK crew, it's only 19 days till the Island Challenge.......
We had an awesome influx of entries last week..."Thank you" and some big name paddlers also signed up.
Information:
Entries will close Thursday 31st Oct.
We will be excepting entries on the day but you will be paying a premium $75 and you must sign in 7-8am.
Race registration and sign in will be 7am-8:30am.
"Please come as early as you can"
Race start time is 9-9:30am.
For paddlers that are doing the Pro 2xlaps race you will not have to run on dry sand as the bottom beach buoy will be on the shoreline.
Depending on conditions, it will be a knee deep water start.
Leg ropes are compulsory, you will not race if you don't have one on!
A high-Vis top is recommended.
You do not have to wear a PFD or lifejacket, but it is also recommended.
Drafting is allowed.
Running up the beach to the finish is not allowed, you must paddle towards or in a straight angle to the finish line. (Give or take 25meters)
And finally, an old wise man just told me the long range forecast is looking absolutely bloody brilliant!
Cheers Jonesy
I know I'm being thick but is the race on the Saturday or Sunday
?
The race is Saturday and the surfing is Sunday
how many in under 16 sup event have registered??
As from Friday x1
Ok crew 13days to go...... Times a ticking!
Entries are rolling in nicely but still a lot of people are sitting back waiting for the that 7day forecast?
Could I please ask if you are going to enter do so as soon as you can, It just helps us organize the event.
I've added a tease photo of the surf and the island this morning.
The sand around SurfAir as come back nicely and the weather as been absolutely superb on the Sunny Coast so it should be a cracking weekend.
We finally got approval to get the Jeep's on the beach so it will make the Island challenge event a real stand out for competitors and spectators.
Jackson Close and Geoff Brean have entered the Open surf, of which I regard as two of the best SUP surf paddlers in the world and have just come back from California and Fiji.
The Expo is growing with over 20 stalls and I've got SurfAir chilling the beer at 3.6degs.
Cheers Jonesy
Ok SUP heads, 1x week to go until the Island Challenge.
Entries have trickled in but we are still way off our minimum target.
"Can I please note that this is the first time a race around Old Women Island as been organized..........so don't miss this special opportunity. I would hate for you guys to have any regrets because it might'n happen next year.
The 7 day forecast is looking good!
A southerly change will be hitting the Sunny Coast Wednesday with winds around the 20 knots SE but thankfully easing Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Wave high's for Saturday is forecast around the 2ft range and looks like the Sun will be shinning!
Yes yes things can change so I'll be updating regularly.
If you are sitting on the fence about water safety and you haven't done much ocean paddling, we have employed 3x Qld Lifeguards on jetski's (headed by Anthony King).
Looking at the entry list, it looks like the young brigade are stepping it up in the open pro men's, Well Done Lads!!!!!!
And the over 40's, 50's and yes over 60's are filling up nicely.
Cheers for now Jonesy

Weather is looking great for the lap/s around the island with safe conditions for all. Also the conditions look like they will be very clean for the surf comp on Sunday.
I hope the Goldie Crew, Brisbane Crew and others areas can make it and support this event. The free drinks and food at the function on Saturday for each competitor in either Surf and Race is a massive bonus. Plus your partner is included.
Look forward to seeing you all there.
Well doesn't time fly! Only 3days to the Island Challenge stand-up paddle race....
"I'm getting excited"
Entries are absolutely rolling in, this event is gonna be massive.
Don't forget entries close Thursday midnight. (Surfing Qld dot com)
You can enter on the day but it will cost you $75 bucks!!
Good news regarding the weather.. We should have 5knots SW winds in the morning and it's forecast to only pick up to 10-12knots SE by midday and the sun will be shinning..
The waves should only be about 1-2ft making it perfect for everybody to paddle around the island.
Registration will start at 7:30AM to 8:30 AM and the race will start at 9 AM.
Sorry to all the people that will be traveling up from the Gold Coast and Brisbane but as you know the early bird gets the worm..... Well the light winds.
Cheers Jonesy
EPIC news......
Beau O'Brian arguably one of the world's best paddlers will be our official water safety paddler for the IC race.
He is kindly going to help paddlers negotiate their way through the surf break and even paddle along side some lucky paddlers!!!!
Mr KeNalu.... Dean Elcoat is driving up from Vic to race and have a stall of all the KeNalu paddles at the IC expo.
This is a great opportunity to suss out your next new paddle:)
anyone keen for a paddle around the island today for a warm up?
surfs crap so it would be good to do somthing
I Hear Linkin and Jake are neck and neck at the moment with 1 lap to go, and Karla is leading the girls.
gee jake would have to be the busiest paddler around, so many races.
he would go to the opening of a dunny door.
ps no disrespect to any race events
