Can anybody offer some suggestions on the best head protection in the surf. I have sustained a gash to the temple from colliding with the fin of my board when I got rinsed in a wave. Now I have blown an ear drum from taking the lip of a wave on the side of my head. There has to be some better way to protect my head in reasonable sized surf. Your suggestions are appreciated. Cheers
G.

I wear a gath hemet and swear by it...it's saved my head many times. Just remember wearing a helmet doesn't make you invinsible--you still gotta know your limits(and push em from time to time)

Gath Helmet,

Popular colours are Dogman bright red or Kristi's hot pink they look a little naff but saved Kristi's and my melon on many occassions.

As said above get the right size to ensure the best protection

Use a Gath with visor - saved my head from being clocked by the paddle on Saturday when I fell off the back and the wave threw the paddle into my scone, even with it being in my hand.....a lucky escape.

Wonder if we'll start to see more Gath helmets in BOP races.

I've always worn a helmet in the surf, carryover from windsurfing and realized I needed after the first dozen or so stitches! But recently just stopped wearing it in the surf, feeling a little more confident I, guess. No doubt I'll go back to it after the next incident. Funny thing, I find when I have the helmet on I feel it getting whacked by the board occasionaly but tend not to get whacked at all when I don't have it on, maybe I'm just more careful when I'm not wearing it?
