About to take a surf road trip in 2 weeks for 5 days between Byron Bay and Newcastle anyone have suggestions on where to catch some waves and things to check out when the surf turns bad?
Hay Adapt
You need to buy this book. A must have. Mark Warren's Atlas of Australian Surfing I've owned one for about 30 years tells you about every surf spot

My favourite wave Angourie
Byron, Lennox and Angourie are all definite no-go zones for SUP but there are plenty of other breaks like Crescent Heads which are SUP ok as long as you don't try and take over the take-off spot.
Port Stephens/Nelson Bay.
Birubi blows off shore in a NE and One Mile beach and Fingal are good spots.
If weather/surf is crap there is plenty to do - 2 wineries,Nelson Bay Marina, and a good unlicensed/unsafe go cart track as well.
Adapt, there are countless number of places. Just take any turn to the east. Angourie Point is not SUP friendly but back beach is as is Yamba main beach. I have SUPped the Pass at Byron on several occasions with no issues. Try Hat Head, Seal Rocks, Yagen, Minnie Waters etc etc etc. Just remember be NICE!!!! ET.
You should have had a talk to the Dogman at the comp yesterday he is at Minnie Waters and could have put you into all the lefts!!!
Have surfed angas a few times on the sup and never had a problem. Show a bit of respect, dont pinch every wave, dont drop in and you should be sweet.
