Agree with Oc. Hate to bang the same old drum again.......but. In the Vic Titles we had twelve competitors in the Over 40s all from Vico, NSW 16, Qld 16. The breakdown for the Aussie Titles is 2 from NSW, 2 from Qld and one from everywhere else. Why!!! When Qld is only fielding 16 in the Over 40s and some of those are from NSW, why is Vico getting shafted? And yep I do have a vested interest as I finished second in the 40s by .25 of a point. I also finished 3rd in the open and will be at Port Mac to compete, but at the ripe old age of 52, why the f..k can't I compete against someone who isn't young enough to be my Grandson!
Cheers

it seems to me the same people that make these calls on the number spots from each state, also select the Aussie cricket team. Victoria and SA get shafted

In the 40+ if there is 2 each from QLD & NSW 1 each from VIC , SA, WA & TAS that's only 7 , how does that work ? even if it was 2 from each state it's only 12.

Thats good Sparxy, i think without bang'n on things won't change, I would suggest that those in the position of management of Sup comps should be listening to whats being said to understand that apart from the immediate self interest of competing in the appropriate groups the underlying reason is for the Sup sport to grow and cater for all groups , to be inclusive and to promote the sport to fulfill its potential at all levels local state, and national , i think i have said too much :-)). And Good luck with this weekends event!
I had a chance to do nationals in the bop race but at 56 against over 40's pffft Lost interest just bought a new longboard....

I'd do that count again Rob.

As for this discussion of Over 40s and and qualification spots, it's an excellent topic for a new thread. Perhaps leave this one for discussion on QLD titles?

I think it's weird having an open invite to other states for a perspective state title. I don't think it's happened in any other sport. I'm not having a dig at anyone but if certain states are struggling to fill numbers that may be a reflection on how popular the sport actually is. The Qld'ers have the strongest hold on sup, but alot choose not to compete. Mitchell, Billy, TSJ and a few others aren't going this yr. Qld have a strong field and I doubt they will be to worried about anyone crossing the boarder hahaha.

There will be wildcard spots at the Aussies anyway, hope Josh Constable doesn't get the yearly urge to grab a sup and go to town on everyone.

Surfing Australia in their wisdom decided that to encourage numbers they would allow interstate competitors to compete in other State's comps. QLDers went in our State titles as well.

Judging by the numbers in the open (15) they need as many as they can get. Hell we get 30 at our club comps.

That's true and that's why people don't enter , it's a $60 t-shirt , if there wasn't an over 40's I certainly wouldn't waste my time in open to get knocked out in my first heat. Even the 40's is tuff I'll be scratching to get through.

This topic/forum is turning into the grumpy old men part of seabreeze, I understand some of you have concerns about state selection etc etc, but if you have a problem with it direct those concerns to Surfing Australia and your state governing bodies. I'm sure these guys have been running contests for a long time and they know what needs to be done to have a successful event for years to come. There are a lot of barriers to creating a successful event and having people support it without putting a negative spin on it before the event even starts. Who cares if my state or club got more to an event then yours, the fact is there's an event on and it's promoting physical activity but more importantly SUP.

Good luck to all of the competitors over the long weekend, enjoy the event and if your not in it at least support it by heading down to have a look!
