Nice pics BP. If you could somehow make it out through the shore break at Taylors when its that size and didn't break your board on the first wave then I would definitely go buy a lottery ticket!
I have been bounced off the bottom many times pulling in to closeouts on a shortboard at Taylors. It gets really heavy. Good for practicing your breath holding. Ha Ha.
I thought all the Queenslanders might like this shot of Kaikoura in the South Island of NZ I took while on a surf trip a few winters ago. Check out how low the snow line is. Chilly even with a 5/3 steamer, hooded 2mm vest, gloves and booties. It was a clear frosty morning and about 2 degrees C, surf was 2ft and glassy.
Nice to see you out there BP (even if occasionally looking vaguely confused)
Who is the kind camera person?
Thanks for posting those shots of Taylors - I have been cleaned up there a few times years ago when I used to visit my mum when she lived in Chch. I really envy you boys and the ice cream headaches. Ouch. Top effort. Is that a 7th wave wettie you are using?
Behind the camera was my wife, There were some great rides i had but she missed the shot, A good one of a short boarder trying to take my wave oh realy i thought
Great waves, Andrew was there then he was not, But the swell died a little at the end but i was happy after 2 hours in the surf and buggered now.
I think he got a shock when i paddled over a rather large set, I must be getting the hang of this now
I have 2 small vids of a wave i was on but i dont know how to load them?? Is it just the same a loading a photo?
Thanks for the photos. Brings back fond memories of when I worked for a Sydney company and was transferred to Christchurch for 6 months. We used to go to Maungamanu and camp on the weekends. Wow what an incredibly wild and beautiful place…great surf and fantastic locales ….really cold water but that’s what soughted out the sooks.
I also remember Meatworks well as there was always a wave there plus a mad seal that took a bite at a mates foot making him bleed a lot. Everyone got out of the water quick smart lol.
I also remember Christchurch having 4 chicks to every bloke...pretty good odds!!
