I agree casso,
I was a sponcered kiteboarder and even though it was a good lifestyle and fun most of the time
Once i got a go on a sup i found the stoke all over again and had a much more relaxed feeling. No pressure to perform just great fun
During a road trip I lose the will to live if I've got to dick around with too much gear to get at the toys I want. There's nothing worse than spending a half an hour at each end stacking and re-stacking and rooting around trying to find bits and pieces.
I'm musing on the idea of using making a vertical bar to carry the SUP on it's side so it will fit on the roof rack along with the rooftop box. The 23" wide longboard used to make quite a nice sun shade sticking out the side but 30" of SUP would be ridiculous and a navigation hazard.
check the tails on those "THINGS"
i thought flyers and hips were done and dusted in the 80's with all the bad acid that was going around
i think he dragging 2 buckets goatman
and not throwing buckets like he should
later
He's not actually surfing the wave. He's being dragged along by the mush. The nose of the board is way up in the air.
BTW Kainoa on the 6'6" SUP looks better than this but his turns are still slide and snap rather than carve and glide.
Yeah those hypa boards (to me) don't look very good. Way too much bottom curve/rocker. They look like they have enough volume but just trying to push water. The bucket call is spot on!
Surely they could see/feel this riding them? Maybe it is the wave, I don't know.
The deck looks huge, like you're a foot above sea level or something. I dont know how good those surfers are but even the little girl looks wobbly on them
Kmart/Kraapola
one minute of watching that was a wasted minute.my dc 8 10 would #### all over them even with me on it.throw them in the bin
Respectfully Hypr,
Kids dont need features like "bat tails" or any extra pointy bits to cause injury.
Kids on a 7' board only need 3" to 4" max thickness, any more the board becomes too corky. Short boards are actualy more stable with the tail half submeged when they are paddled, it dampens the roll & lowers C of G.
Try a board with much flatter rocker, 4" or so, & a tail with a generous spiral V. Gives more drive, particularly with an appropriate size fin.
Heaver riders 90kg or so, are still ok with 4" thickness & 31" x 8' flater decks give more confidence to run around on.
That vid is a good example of what a short sup should not be. Luke Egan's 8' Magic Carpet is a better example of the shorter spectrum. It looks sick, and rides sick, but then it is being ridden by a supreme master
Greeno, you hit the nail on the head. Wonder if it was the riders, the waves or the boards that was the problem?
Fair call Oliver, with out going over the same ol long versus short crap, hard to say whether any board would of been ideal in these conditions, I am shaping a new short sup, 7'6 x 30 x 4, I am calling it the 'Oliver' cos I know how much you love short boards with the dimensions splashed all over the forum
I was thinking it would make a great first board for someone around 110kg, be great for choppy conditions. I hadn't thought about the go-pro, as I am only 32, full head of hair and built like an adonis I guess I won't be needing it
