For those not heading over to the Quiksilver Festival in Waikiki, is anyone planning on doing this race?

I hadn't heard anything about it this year, but just had a look on their website (http://www.usmevents.com.au/Triathlon___Multi_Sport/Noosa_Winter_Festival/Festival_Info/The_Noosa_Paddle.htm).

The SUP course has been shortened to 6.8km (rather than 20km) this year and there's prizemoney ($150/$100/$50) for the first 3 girls and 3 guys across the line as long as there are at least 3 entries for each. The entry fee of $40 (if you enter before the day) seems pretty reasonable or its $50- if you enter on the day.

The website doesn't have anything about categories so i'm guessing it must just be unlimited with all board sizes in together???

I'm thinking of heading up for the day - is anyone else planning on going?

No need for anyone to worry about that again, this year it's a water start at Noosa, just down the beach a little from First Point, paddle out past Little Cove, Nationals and Tea Tree with a buoy turn past Granites then paddle all the way back in. Could be fun if there's some swell running and waves to catch on the way in.

Here's the course map:

The age groups are for the 20km ski race, as gassa said sup is all ages together for this one.

Are they going to keep the finish open until all competitors finish this time?? Bit disappointing when they started wrapping everything up before everyone got across the line, especially when it's a paid event[}:)]

No sure yet, but i know there's a few thinking about it?
I'm 90% sure i'll be there but would be good to know whether there'll be any other girls to race against (other than you Jonesy) before I make the drive up?

Does anybody know if you have to wear a PDF or is it optional.

Are they going to make sure the last paddler is actually still paddling and not assume he has retired this year?

That said, it's a shame it's not a 20km race anymore... it's was a memorable challenge last year.

Sunny SUP, if you go to the bottom of the page of AliCat's post you will see a paragraph titled SAFETY.
In this paragraph it talks about PFD's and legropes.

Awesome will see you there. Not sure about the 12'6 though??? I got a new 14' a couple of weeks ago that I was really keen to paddle. Will think about it, might bring both up and if all the girls are on 12'6, I'll use mine too.
