Good little waves down Manly Beach this morning - still in the waist to head high range.

Looks like people that came for the snowy are starting to head out for a bit of practice - trimming, nose rides and head dips galore going on when I finally came in. Couple stand ups about but not many.

Did you see a crazed looking, long haired dude wearing a red helmet by any chance

not yet

just spreading the love around the dee hawaii area before i migrate down this arvo to down town manly for a few fat ones

manly looked a bit slow and gutless this morning to float the pie warmer on mr hanky

jezza how did ya go out at longie bombie this morning...as i wosssed it and went out in the shorey down the beach from you

Got better as the tide dropped - around 10:30 - 11:00, finally dragged my self in around noon when the lunch crowd came out and it got busy. The left out of the Queenscliff SLSC and the left/right out front of the North Styne SLSC where the go when I was out and still seems that way.

For those who missed em over the years, here is some footage from the last two events.

2008

Woogie and Dane Wilson came down from QLD and smashed our NSW arses!
Check out Casso stylin in the 11' Oxbow!

2009

Interesting to see the progression in riding and equipment!

2009 and sub 9'ers and pulled in noses are in, but check out the guy ripping on the White Laird! Everyone is ripping but Appsy smashed it to take the title!

Goatman was a newbie back then and watched from the sidelines.
A year down the track and he is smashing it!

Watch out Appsy! Pressure is on!!

Should be a great weekend!

Watched the first heat today before it got too cold to be sitting around in shorts - Casso (Blue jersey) stood out I'd be surprised if he didn't make the final but I didn't stay to see final results of the heats.

Interesting to see that most of the guys that seemed to have boards sup 9' - how Casso rides a 8'6" is beyond me....

Final should be good tomorrow.

If your in the area there are some great looking boards around the Hightide guys are up from Vicco, his boards are b e a utifull - for any one that's seen it the pink board the artwork took 28 hours , I'll grab a pic tomorrow if I remember. (yeah I know it's longboards but it's still freaking nice)

who's got the best form so far

A bit hard to call, but this is how I saw it...

These guys are all on fire. It is all going to boil down to wave selection.
Appsy is stylin and charging hard. He only got 1 1/2 decent waves in his heat but smashed them both to go through.
Goatie and Dan were ripping - both masters at milking the little inside numbers (the sets were closing out)
Casso is definitely in form and is right up there in contention.
Dogman , I thought should have gone through.
Matt Granger was the master at picking the waves. He has only spent a few hours on his new board and was looking a bit wobbly backhand, if he gets it wired he will be a contender,
Beau was stylin but did not look comfortable.

Conditions should be good for the final tomorrow!

Come on down!

Yep, great final. Beau was smashing it on the bigger rights. All the boys were charging though and it was impossible to call the first three. Great conditions too made it one of the better comps in a whilst. Videoed the final, just need time to get it off the camera and into a clip.

President of the Manly Malibu Boardriders - Lynden on the mic, Matt Granger (3rd), Casso (4th, Dan (5th), Beau (1st).
Missing - Goatman (2nd) and Appsy (6th)

Thanks again to Lynden and the crew from Manly Malibu boardriders club for including SUP since 2008!!

Great vibe, great location, great comp!

Really was an awesome comp. I filmed the whole thing ( Goaty's camera so up to him to put it up here if has time) and the standard of surfing was awesome. The whole new school/shortboard style of SUP surfing really is progressing.

Awesome final, could not pick it at all, love to see the scores, must have been pretty close!

" i wish i could hassel like him "

Um, but didn't you call him onto a wave that Casso was already on so that he'd get an interferance call marked against him?

...that's what I heard...

Haha u guys crack me up. Sportsmanship??? Yeah getting hassled that much a competitor gets hit by a Sup due to hassling that's classic. There was more hassling in that final then a brazilluan wqs. Just glad a good bloke won the event. My family has ties to snowy so I was spewing to not back up with a win.

I would call paddling from outside to inside someone as they are paddling for a wave (ie snaking) to be hassling. I would say someone turning to go left straight at someone who is already on a distinct right hander, hassling.

But being well on the inside of someone and getting a wave off them in a surfing comp is not hassling - possibly frustrating for the person who is a bit wave starved though.

PS: who got hit by a SUP?
