The secret is out about the new 'secret' 14' Starboard.. Introducing.. Mr Big Nose .. .. It looks good.. It looks fast.
More pics and vid to come.

I will most likely cop some sh1t for this but...........
"why don't you just get a canoe".
sorry this doesn't appeal to me at all.
Dimensions - 14' x 28"
Construction - Full Carbon
Weight - don't know yet but light
Cost - Carbon about $3500 and I think the epoxy about a grand less
Sorry planesailing, it's not nearly as canoe like as a lot of this style of board, in the flesh the thing is a weapon - a slightly strange weapon but definitely a weapon. These boards aren't designed to "look good" , they are designed to perform as well as possible in the conditions they are designed for. They aren't made to "appeal" they are made to perform. You need to have a go at down winding one day, it's incredibly good fun.
Complex bottom shape of narrow double concaves with a flat section in the middle where you stand going back to a V in the tail also with concaves.
Nice !! Too balmy and sunny in Melbourne for the beanie Jonathan !!??
Without seeing it in person, it looks like it might be a good all rounder, between DW, Flat, and Point to Point.
Looking at it, it could be quicker than the 14 Naish in the flats. And down wind is all about runners, and I'm sure it is good at that also.... (???)
Where's the fin positioned ? It might even be quite surfable in tiny waves...
Yeah balmy here Simondo, and you know someone said my nose looks big when I wear a beany, now DJ has told the world....
Introducing.. Mr Big Nose ..
Me and the new board are getting a bit of a complex
I think it will be a great all rounder, much flatter rocker than the 14 Glide and the volume in the nose will mean that it will never pearl. Fin is not crazy far forward, I think it would surf little waves no problem.
Paddling is a sport and is as old as standing UP on a log or on your dugout when your arse got to sore. we have come a long way to these beautifully functionall logs. I have a 14glide slightly used because of winter, lots of surf and the trouble and strife but that board does look easy on the eye to a paddler. Interesting for sure.

hi jonathan, would you like to put a little wager on that- it will never pearl
cheers
Actually it did cross my mind that saying that was asking for trouble Lets change it to "unlikely to pearl"
Nice board,
Jonathan is a lucky guy.
The design looks like a mix of a Surfrace and a Freerace.
Is it the 0001 serial number ?
Whats with the colour of that thing, what 2 or 3 grand or whatever that thing is so uglyLooks like something in a panel shop pre paint
62Mac,
It's all about performance and saving weight, by saving paint.... I don't mind it.... I take your point though!
Simon
i would like to know how stiff that board is in the ocean. i imagine those rail/ beams would make the board really strong, ie- less shutter
Can't wait to see how this board goes Jonathan , especially after how well the K15 went for you on the Stkilda to Sandy run, looks like your expected to stay mostly in the same area of the board with the short length of the deck pad in the pictures, guess I'll still hope for a cross wind though,
cheers.
What's the purpose of painting then rubbing back? If you want it to look like cf, why not not paint it and leave it full cf? That'd look great (but hot). Or use a layer of Innegra, for the "ghost carbon" look.
Yes, Orange Purple and Grannysmith Green. are colours that just keep
coming back to haunt us....over and over and over. Just ask the designers
at HOLDEN and FORD.
NO SERIOUS, my question was why not paddle a canoe, you would have somewhere
to put the power bars, gatorade and spare clothing and safety gear.
Question... is this new design hollow ? does it have a pressure relief screw? I can see
some problems if you leave it in the sun with soo much volume of air in an airtight
space.
Why are race boards starting to look like canoes?
The answers obvious. While people believed we had to re-invent the wheel with this 'new' sport common sense eventually prevailed and people realised that the DNA strands of SUP distance paddling in particular are about one degree (the bit where you stand up) different to Paddling canoes with single blades ie Outrigger Canoes.
Up here Jacko has been paddling an OC1, Lacey just bought one, all of the Roar crew are trying and even racing them. Roar is starting to sell them even. Just as in Hawaii people move freely between these sports and benefit from each in the other. It is only logical therefore that the designs of the new SUP boards dip into canoe design with an extra helping of Prone paddle board design for good measure. They are faster afterall.
I have been saying it for a while but I think the OC1 craze that has swept Cali and Hawaii is yet to hit Australia in its entirety and I think those that like distance SUP paddling are likely initial cross overs (and back and over and back).
