I thought i would put up some GPS stuff on here for guys who are training by them self's to have some thing to go off. If you dont have a GPS watch and train by your self you should get one, they are a great way of seeing what is going on!! I know i was looking around for times and speed of people and could not find anything really so this might start some thing. Water was flat with tide going one way no wind and on a 14ft Javelin

Skys the limit about what you might start .. look what the Windsurfers ended up with from a similar post in their forum a few years ago.

http://www.gpsteamchallenge.com/

"History of Challenge

The challenge was an idea derived from discussions on the seabreeze.com.au windsurfing forum. The Windsurfing community stated that they were interested in sailing fast, and that the GPS technology that was available today, was an objective way to measure speeds. The idea of an interstate team versus team idea was then floated, which seemed to generate huge interest."

...grew from a state, to Australia, to now having international teams...

Yes there is a iPhone app just make sure you have your battery fully charged before you start. A mate has used it and I'm sure he said it went ok just chewed up the battery.

Good idea laurie let's see where it goes.

The big spikes are turns, so they are slow points. Yes it can be changed to ft or miles but I for got how, I will look in to it tomorrow.

I have not used my GPS whilst paddling my SUP yet but you may have inspired me it would be good to measure times over a track
Here is the track from when I sailed it though

In the top right hand side of the chart page under the sign in command there is an option to view in metric or statute. If you select metric it will change it all to metres and kilometres
