I was reading an old Pacific Longboard Mag and came across the Wavegrinder Fins. The article and the website www.wavegrinder.com claim that they reduce drag and create lift. They also claim to increase paddle speed with the foils.

Has anyone tried them or have an informed opinion. I was wondering about the application to downwinders and also the thruster set up for the short board SUP.

The blue image below is for the downwinder or longer SUP and the red image is for a thruster set up.

Not expensive either so may be worth an experiment if it doesn't get a roasting here.

Cheers for the feedback

Thanks Hilly

Have you ever found a larger one as you mentioned in the thread that a bigger one would be good??

No, think that the size seems to work ok. When I am back paddling, which will be a while, I was going to try it back to back with the other fin. Will have to wait.

Feels like it works but I have no evidence, feels like it picks up and stays on runners really well. Bit like power balance really which I do not believe in.

Only tried the downwind application looks wrong as a performance surf fin.

Phill (OG SUP) quite likes this fin, and Kristi has used it. I tried to do some time trials with a few fins one night, including this fin.... but no conclusive results.

Personally, I think the fin has a touch too much flex (too soft / not stiff enough). Plus, I didn't really like the weed catching aspect of the fin.....

I've posted this fin before.... I like the general look of this, including its weed dropping ability.
