Ahhhh jenkz i love a man with a sense of humour.

Have fun in the sun you WA brothers.

Just remember that no more than 3, three, of you can gather at any one time. aslo please remember that you are not allowed to wear the same T-shirts. It would be a shame if the task force arrested you.

Its not a bad run out there today. If you are new to the GC then a good option would be Gibson Street (Bilinga) to 4th Ave (North Burleigh). It will be good all day by the looks of things. Get out there.

wow... just checking out the surf cams - looks great up there. Ballina is a blown out mess.
Out of interest - why go from Bilinga? It looks like launching at snapper or kirra would be even better?

It's a time thing, Bilinga to Miami is a great run and only 11 kilometre run 50 min max, plus Linda hates driving around Greenmount/Snapper

Phil, I think you came past Burleigh just after I came in. Did 2 runs today and the 2nd one was epic. A lot more swell on it compared to the earlier run which always makes things more interesting. I should have done my usual and come in further north than Burleigh but that's where the transport was waiting.

Foamballer, it's never good going from Kirra as the wind is usually a lot more offshore as it swings around Kirra hill. You need to leave from Snapper or Bilinga on those S-N runs. Anywhere in between is usually not very good. The good spots are usually predicable so in time you get to know where to expect the best runs.

Yesterday, I did Southport to Currumbin. I was surprised to not see anyone else out there - it would have been good practice for those going in the Oz titles this weekend. I'm glad I had a rudder as it would not have been much fun without one.

Did you see the Yellow Drum-Lines just off Snapper Rocks when you was surfing Greenmount they catch Great whites on a weekly basis the Great whites that are bigger than 10ft straighten the bait hooks. just around the corner is Cook Island it's a caf'e for Great Whites. Cook Island is next door to Kingscliff.
Trivia:- The East coast Great Whites will not breed with the West Coast Great Whites.

I grew up surfing Catherine Hill Bay in Newcastle I used to surf the place by myself in the 70's early 80's I found out 20 years later Catherine Hill Bay like Stockton Beach are the biggest caf'es for Great whites on the east coast of Australia. "Help Me Please mr wizard"

So go from either of these points, but not in between? I would've thought a bit of offshore at Kirra would've been good to get out in the clear. I get what you're saying about good and bad spots, but I didn't think offshore would've been a problem launching? Or is it more that the wind gets really swirly/turbulent there in a southerly?

Downwinder, I spent much of my holidays as a grommet surfing Stockton. I wasn't allowed North of North Stockton surf club because that's where the biggest sharks were. The oldies must have thought the sharks turned North again at the club house. Wouldn't surf there in the conditions I used to for anything.

Yeah, still there. But alot less of it than was there when you were surfing it. It's about the area those guys on 4WD were setting up a game chair on the front of their vehicles, paddling out the back with some meat on a hook and catching a great white within 5 minutes.

Back to the topic though. Looking forward to catching up with the crew for a few downwinders next week.

a group of us quite regularly go from kirra on a se. cruise out, can be a little slow to start with, but gives you a little time to warm up and suss it out. sometimes from snapper on a se you can find yourself having to paddle back in hard.

if it south- no further south then gibson st, se- kirra , ese snapper. kirra/snapper can vary according to swell direction.

another good run on a ssw or south run is from burleigh to broadbeach. the runs from kirra to north burleigh yesterday were the pick imo.

then there is the kingie run north to snapper onwards in a south wind, but you would have to work to get back in after snapper. again if you were going to burleigh the line is better than if you had to get back in the alley.

bumps ride the direction you need to be is easier than paddling one side the whole time

most of it is experience and being aware of what you need to do as condition vary even while you are out there paddling.

ps i prefer to take the option i might have to paddle out a bit rather than get blown out to sea

thanks Lacey, that's good info - particularly that even a SE'er can still tend to push you offshore at Snapper.
