awesome you gave it a go mate....and youve probably learnt more than u know.....I was aware that different resins are compatible with different foams....just not sure which ones.

youve lost nothing in this exercise but gained a great deal....regardless of the outcome.

i bet youll really enjoy your first paddle on it

Nah thats my blood after the missus clipped me round the ears.Husq yeah it started of really well the shape was sweet and then panic set in.Any way i think i will still be able to ride it as the nose area wont be in the water much anyway.I have just reduced the waterline length.

I'm sure it's rescuable. The best thing about these things is that if you have shaped it OK you can filler, sand and paint it to match again.

Can't see how the bottom looks now but you might find it better for you. Hope it all works out mate.

I dont know what type it was , off the shelf bunnings.

Any way i think the board will go o.k , in the next couple of days ill do the 8k run up Currumbin Ck and see how the times compare , the best i have done before was 58min.

I made a similar mistake many years ago, polyester resin eats styrofoam. I guess it's a mistake you will only make once in your lifetime.

I like the new board / new nose !! Moved it away from the kayak front end ! I would guess it will be slightly slower in flatwater, but slightly better in good downwind conditions.... ??

Yes, Polyester Resin eats Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) !! You need Epoxy Resin for EPS. If not available at Bunnings, you would need ask for it at Mitre 10, or your yatching supplies place.

went for a test run tonight and i was pleasantly suprised , i think it will definatley be better in downwinders , on the flat i think it feels a bit faster too.Caught some little bumbs in the creek mouth easily. So thankfully i didnt reck it , it looks like crap but i can probably smarten it up a bit.

What type of filler would one use?

the good- i saw teatrea, raced out, took his paddle and had a go. yep, i think it's really good. certainly fast, caught a pimple right into the carpart from the surfline. it behave nicely, as able to go down the elevators with ease and seemed quick to paddle.

the bad- 1 -what a mess. don't even think about doing any more teatrea please. even the experts will be scatching their heads when the see this one. i think you just have to put your hat in your hand and cop it sweet

2- get the steering tighten up and adjusted, i can feel it wondering around on the wave. you can't expect the board to go well when the rudder is flapping around in the water. i can show you how to do it. cables get loose because they stretch. they need to be looked at regularly and adjusted as needed. that goes for all steering systems

pretty pleased for you- well worth keeping, but get the professionals to fix it up

yeah good advice Lacey , i think ill just leave it though i dont want to spend any more money on it , ill just ride it to death and then get Dale to shape me a new one.Ill take you up on the offer to show me how to tighten the rudder.

Cheers
