I've tried to get my wife involved in sup'ing...but she won't let me bring my board into the house! And I don't reckon it would fit in the kitchen anyways.
[edit] - I hate when a post that takes the p!ss out of previous comments starts a fresh page...
My wife and her friend down wind paddled socially every Thurs over summer. They tried to get a few more people to join them by advertising on sea breeze but didn't get any responses. Come spring they will start up again and hopefully attract a few more females to their little group.
There is a good core crew of girls who are lovin SUP down here in Sydney.
Getting amoungst it out bendo boat ramp
In Sydney we have 'All-Girl Paddle Boarders Inc" (on Facebook as All-Girl SUP Riders Sydney). We meet socially once a month, and have had a lot of interest from ladies who are experienced paddlers, and a lot who are new to the sport. Maybe you could try something like that up there? we are having our 4th meet next Sunday, and have appeared in the paper, so it has had a great response!
You can add one more female to the list of sup;er, she goes under the name of doggie, spotted at a secret location in the west
hhmmm maybe if more of you guys looked like this we might see some more girls want to get into SUP hahahahaha. I really just wanted to post this pic anyway's.
XX angie
Hi! We have a great network of girls over here (we're on facebook at SUP'n Girls) in the US who are addicted to SUP, and we'd love to get your wife into it, too. I've found that when most girls learn to paddle, they like to learn from other women because, well, guys can be a little bossy, ya know? Maybe you could get your wife to at least like our FB page and see our pics - we really have a lot of fun.
YOU HIT A NERVE MAC (sorry doggie its this board stuck in my head)
Watching me back
Doggie this is the sup forum, behave yourself and get back on topic
Right,I did have a lady come to my workplace today with a Oxbow on the roof of her car and she is not on this forum,so I think there are a lot that we don't know about.
Down here in Vicco we have 32 active women in SUP Vic.
And there are a lot participating but not yet signed up.
I think having the bay at our doorstep, SUP is a lot more attractive to women as all they
know is flat water and it's easy for them to get out there.
The best thing is the amount of work people have put into promoting the sport to women.
Dave and Jonathan run "Yummy Mummy" paddle days in the mornings mid week and now
RPS are doing a similar thing from another location. This stuff definitely helps!
p.s. The "Yummy Mummy" term was not used on the day, it's just what the day turned into.
I can't speak for all girls but in my experience I don't go SUPing because it bores the crap out of me. I have been dragged along many times by my seriously addicted partner (who is on this forum as well, but whose name shall remain anonymous to protect the guilty!) I am not afraid of the ocean, I am not afraid of sharks or big waves, and I regularly get out on other craft and love it, but I just didn't get the chip that deludes my brain into thinking that anything about stand up paddle boarding is fun. It may be in the name..."stand up"? Meh, personally I'd rather sit or lie down, and "board" well, that was the word that immediately sprang to mind after my first 20 minutes or so trying to manoeuvre a barge with a teaspoon. It feels inefficient and time-consuming. Maybe a lot of chicks just aren't strong enough in the upper body, but the guy above also has a good point about the boards being too large and heavy for any sane person to want to carry one about.
Anyway, I came clean to The SUPing addict who shall remain nameless the other day, and admitted that I can't stand stand up paddle boarding, and now my board and paddle are for sale on this site :)
I feel sorry for you SUP widow,
I would have been a SUP widow myself , but fortunately I tried SUP for more than 20 minutes and now my other half and I have a ball out on the water several times per week together, rippin it in the big waves, with the sharks looking on.
He loves it, I love it. We are very, very lucky ! Today was a priceless Qld winter day on the water. Wouldnt have been anywhere else...
Hopefully you continue your enjoyment of the water on other craft (hopefully not jet ski i) Good point about upper body strength, sometimes it could be an issue.
Great to see women out there enjoying themselves if thats what they choose ,instead of being dragged along with your partner because they want you involved. Gotta love the ocean, or river for some , i dont think some women are as friendly as men when it comes to sport , guys usually say gday to other newbies in the area (that doesnt mean we want to share waves), women to other women are more territorial / definitely not as welcoming but probably more sincere than a guy. The rules in surfing dont get followed by most women ,probably because most guys are also assholes in the water and this is what they follow when it comes to wave priority. love to see more women/girls out there , just take the blinkers off and have a look on the inside of the wave or who is in the line first , not i will go further out and be ignorant of whose the next wave is . Dont follow the asshole guys doing that /get in line and take a number like the more civilized .
