Lets see......got a corked thigh from a Surftech Takayama 10.7 that was so bad I could hardly walk or drive for a week and its left a permanent ding in my leg with brused muscle via a small shory. Smashed the same boards rail with my head an actually split and opend the rail up, expsing the foam core, needing repair....head okish. Had my LSD 8.8 get popped up into the air from a close out and it came down on my head, fin first....fin ok, head opened and needed stitches. Rolled my ankle on my 12.6 doing a snapper to currumbin run and never been right since....

Good Times

When I first started Sup I tried to dive over the front of the board paddling through a wave and got speared by the nose in the chest right on the sternum. Luckily it had a blunt nose otherwise it would still be stuck in there. Felt like a permanent heart attack for a week.

Had a few...from board recoiling into my nose, wiping out and having it land on my head(thanks mr gath),knee and rib injuries but the best is the fin chop i'm still recovering from(see pic in profile) but all up i'd say it's been worth it!!

I was much heavier when I converted to SUP... my first board was a Starboard Avanti 11'2 x 36.
Loved the way it surfed but it beat the crap out of me...
Too big to get away from... and heavy enough to inflict some real damage.
I broke 5 fins off against my body in 1 month.

In a desperate act of self preservation... I lost weight so I could get a less lethal board.

Now that I am on a sub 9' board... the beatings have subsided

3 broken ribs after a big session at Terrigal Point, 500 metres off shore. Jumped off the board only to have it slam into my ribs on what I thought was the wave of the set. New they were broken straight away and could barely breath when the next wave took me into the washing machine and got pinned down on a double overhead wave. Dont know how I paddled back to the beach but it was excruciating. Now getting a proper padded vest with plenty of flotation. Thats life.

Oh yeah just remembered, I got hit on the back of my head really hard about a month ago. Treading water trying to pull my 8'10 Allwave back to me when a guy with a go pro on the front of his board did a cut back for the camera I assume and totally sconned me. Slight black out and concussion.
Kept on surfing with no apparent effect other than a headache for three days. Funny how I Just remembered this a month later. The surfers all laughed at a super got hit by another super

I'm a newbie and park well away from other cars.
Still struggling with board vs roof racks.

Didn't I read on Seabreeze to try board UNDER racks if really windy?

Only seem to get hurt when i don't wear a surf helmet. "Murphy's Law". Had the occasional side fin cut or two when the leggie recoiled the board into the shin or leg.

Sunday 26/5/13 went out in 4'-6' waves at Ocean Beach Umina and struggled with some of the close out sets a bit. Nice waves, but a few close outs made it hard to chose the right one.

Tried to go through a head high one and the SUP got thrown straight back at my head by the wave. (Bad move on my part I should have bailed earlier and kicked board through the wave).

Put my hand up to stop it hitting me in the head only for it to smack into my hand and specifically the right ring finger which was bent back, then followed by a bit of pain. Thought "sheeitte, that hurt" and that it may be broken, but today it seems to be just bruised and swollen. Lucky!!
