Leave em where they are!
If you have to use the anonymity of a freakin red thumb to criticize someone or voice your disapproval you really should find another sandpit populated with like minded citizens.

The rest of Seabreeze has them and can manage quite well. What is it with SUP people - too sensitive maybe?

If you get offended when you get a few red pixels or if your heart feels a warm glow when you see a few green pixels above your post you really should find another sandpit populated with like minded citizens.

However, in saying that. If business are thumbing other businesses or groups of people are getting together to coordinate attacks against individuals, or people are using multiple usernames to attack - that's not on - and these people should be banned.

Should you ever feel the need to use your big red thumb on me adolf, I will definitely not respect you in the morning!
Cheers

Green or Red Thumb if you give one you should be able to see who's it from , or do you pro red thumbers still want to remain anonymous ? so you can click and giggle and not get caught.

Those 4 pages on the bring back red thumbs post was a pile of dribble. Also agree with Angie if you want to post or thumb put up your real name in your profile.

bring on real names and contact details to make people accountable for the gold
or crap

that they post

also - a 3 post per day policy - to stem the

dwellers / diluters / time wasters

who really need to get a life (red thumb that!)

and shoot / ban anyone with over 595 posts

and a 1 week ban for spelelling errors.

2 week ban for the misuse of "of" and "have"
3 week ban for "there" and "their"

and finally
- a breathalyser attached to every keyboard to stop "drink posting"

Both, or none! Fair enough we want the 'good vibe' posts, but like life - you can't go through it without all the emotion. As for animinonmity...if you remove that, you will start bad vibes between some members (or should that be more bad vibes...?)

I actually don't mind wondering "who red-thumbed me?" It keeps me guessing. As for green thumbs, I don't want to know who likes, or dislikes my posts.

Oi! now you've gone too far! (although my posts would be under the 595 posts if it was introduced earlier - I blame the neverending story for at least half my posts early in the peace)

I'm amazed that red pixels cause such controversy
They mean so much to people - negativity, bad vibes, manipulation, bullying, corporate bullies - WOW

Its a friggen red thumb, outside of here it means nothing, nada nil zilch.
If you ring up the counseling hotline and say "i got a red thumb" they won't know what the fk your on about.

I say bring back red and stop being so precious.

If they are so meaningless, why are you so eager to bring them back? What if Laurie was to offer a purple widget that equally meant nothing. Would that satisfy your need for coloured pixels that mean nothing?

I am all for them, BUT I think it would better if the anonymity was removed.

If you cant remove the anonymity its better as it is.

You made an example of Facebook. On this if you click 'like' it shows you like it. It's popular as it's akin to what you said above, a smile or a thumbs up rather than having to explain yourself.

Some people are sensitive to the red particularly and if you took the anonymous nature away you'd find people respecting what they say via thumb a lot more.

You would note people abusing it and could address it right there on the forum or in private if better suited.

It's a compromise, not sure how hard it would be to code to the site.

My $2.20 Inc GST anyway.

Totally agree. It seems that a lot (not all...) who are wanting it back just troll the site and don't add to it. It's abuse has had a negative impact on some people as they are in the industry and were always slammed. Their input normally had more insight from experience and was worth a read and now missed. The argument about product pimping was a joke in this case as we all knew they had a commercial interest and in most cases these people posting that were shop owners would not talk up a product that was a dog. Their honesty was great. I think the thumbs put an end to some members.

I am not against thumbs but am against the anonymity of them. I drop down of red thumb / green thumb clickers to a post would be good. It ensures you have the balls to put your name to a post or a dislike and not just slam for indiscriminate reasons or those that may have a anti commercial reason through their own commercial interest.

If anonymity can not be removed then I am against thumbs.

"Log in as a registered user:
I know, this sounds obvious but, "Anonymous Coward" does not have a karma rating. You can't reap the perceived benefits of your own accidental brilliance if you post anonymously. Have pride in your work and take credit for it."

The above is a quote from the slashdot moderation page. Pretty much sums it up I reckon. I dont care if you disagree, its a free world after all, but at least have the decency to disagree publicly and not hide behind the red thumbs. Its not about being precious or the need to harden up, its about being honest. The truth is best told face to face followed by a handshake and then a beer or three. Its the Australian way, running round hanging sh..t on people behind their backs belongs somewhere I dont want to live.

Do give Laurie a green thumb if I want red thumbs back or a red thumb if I don't want red thumbs back?

Bring back the biff! I mean red thumbs!
