Christened the new paddle yesterday and I was very impressed with the performance... i was changing from a homemade, heavy, power paddle ..

My first thoughts were 'OMG what have i done, this has no power compared to my homemader' (which had a much bigger blade and a shaft as stiff as iron).....but after a short while, i realised i needed to adopt a total new paddling teqhniue and within 15 mins, i was dialled in and catching waves..(even from standing starts)

For me the paddle comes into its element in those last couple of stokes before you drop in and whilst on the wave. It's incredibly light and manouverable - making paddle transitions effortless which has taken my sup level up another a notch.

Anything was going to feel light compared to my homemader, BUT when i compared it with the Starboard carbon paddle, i was shocked...it was half the weight with loads more flex, you can really feel the flex when paddling and i've been told this is a good thing...for performance and injuries.

The oval shape shaft and carbon ergo T grip make it very comftable in the hands and effecient to use.

After 1 sesh,All in all, happy customer, gr8 paddle.

If you see me out and u want to give it a try just give me a yell.

Not sure if there available in Perth yet, but i believe they are working on it.

the naish has heaps more area:

powerex shaft vs kialoa shaft.

can u see how the paddle is shaped for skiming through the wave

What am I seeing here? I don't see the silver tape in the other images. Is that a pattern on the blade or protection tape?

That's the Kialoa resting on top of the big Naish paddle showing the big difference on blade size.

BTW.. The new Kialoa Methane paddle is even smaller in the blade size.

Congrats on the new paddle Windy.. It will take some getting used to for sure after being so used to the old paddle.

It's more of a springy feel rather than flexy.. It gives the paddle a very lively feeling and once used to it anything else feels dead.

don't know if i'd want to go smaller than the pu'u...but i've got a fair bit of mass to shift through the water .....s'pose you'd get used to it though.
