I've stayed in Sanur a couple of times and have had a ball on the reef out the front.
Be very careful at low tide.
Search for Jankie on this or the kitesurfing forum he is a wealth of knowledge for the Sanur and other areas.

Man!! Bali is a friggin awsome place to surf!! haha.. Speaking of bali... will be there from Thursday to Monday if anyone is around! Need a break from studies so heading there for the weekend... plus I need to get my board fixed

Whenever I head over I hook up with Pete from SUP Bali... he has a wealth of local knowledge and more than happy to show you around... I havnt met Jankie yet, but planning to this trip...
If you need any info mate, give me a PM... if you want to check out my neck of the woods your more than welcome... but can get a bit crazy sleeping in covers with monsoonal rains (cleans the breaks up nice for the morning though!!), eating fish every meal and riding moto's with SUPs on the side down a road thats not wide enough for you and the truck coming the other way! ... AH I LOVE THIS PLACE!! HAHA!!

the easterly trade winds blow pretty strong onshore in Sanur june-august so you may want to take a kite.Cangu balian etc would be better option but expect gridlock traffic after 9.00am.
Otherwise ferry to nusa lembongan for a few days.You can paddle out to shipwrecks/lacerations from most accommodation at turtle bay.
