Yeah...It's better than sex......Well..better than bad sex...

When Mark Paul told me what the guys in Hawaii are doing I thought..That sounds really dumb...

But after doing it for five minutes I was hooked....and 2 1/2 years later I'm still hooked..

I've got to agree with both of you, i'm totally hooked as well even though i still haven't been anywhere there's wave's i still can't get enough of being on the water. You guy's who live near the surf dont realise how lucky you are, i'm just happy i can get on any kind of water at the moment with a board under my feet and a paddle in both my hands.......better than any sport i play bacause every day can be different.

STOKED

How much does this photo make you wanna go?
I remember when Miller came down to Trigg to see what I was going on about.
"SUP? Nar. Whatever. I got too much windsurfing gear as is."
Kinda sounded like me
Id only had my 11'2 for a few weeks and was totally stoked with it.
Miller got on it and paddled out the back. He was really wobbly. But to my surprise he padled hard for this wave and all I heard was WHOO HOO! He got his first wave!
You just dont get that paddling out on a shortboard for the first time.
I just cant wait to get him on a shortboard. Hes gonna be unstoppable

Yep, couldn't agree more. So glad i've got supin this winter, i'd hate think what else i would be doing cos there ain't no wind up here so far this winter.
After NON stop sessions all wkend, i'm off to the alley this morning. After i finish my eggs on toast and coffee.
Rode down at fingal point both sat and sun mornings, what a great uncrowded spot with dolphins everywhere!!

I can't understand the obsession you guys have with this. It hasn't affected me at all. I went out twice on the weekend, and hopefully going out for a night paddle on Tuesday evening on the Yarra. Any takers?
Oh....and I sleep with my beautiful carbon fibre paddle.

I had a list of things I imagined doing when I first thought SUP would be good for me. I've only been doing it for a month but:

- Gliding around on flat water enjoying the sunshine. Tick

- Getting a really long surf ride through multiple reforms. Tick

- Cruising along the coast catching waves as they come along. Tick

- Checking out the sea life and dolphins and reefs. Tick, Tick, Tick

- SUPing when the wind and weather was too crappy to kite. Tick

- Getting good long glides on bay swells. Tick

- Surfing the breakwater at Sandy yacht club. Tick

- Walking down to my local beach for a paddle. Tick (and play with little bay waves) Tick

- Get fitter and stronger. Tick

- Taking the gf out for a tandem paddle. Maybe in summer. :(

- Going out in insanely strong winds to catch big wind swell. Not yet. Only about 18 knots so far.

- Seeing a shark and being safe up out of the water. Not sure whether I want to do that one.

I surfed my local spot on the weekend. Just me and five regular surfers. It was a sunny day with light wind and the sets were head high and over. The other surfers gradually left and I had it all on my own. I was working on my take-offs; what a buzz when you get the big Naish right in the pocket and crank the bottom turn to set up the wave. I wouldn't have thought it possible a couple of months ago. To finish off, as it was starting to get late, I rode the the last wave in for several hundred metres through a couple of reforms on the inner banks until it finished in the channel near the beach. This is what I bought my SUP board for.

Yep Paddle boarding is sick had the best session with my mates at swansea channel on saturday morning, waves were pretty full and I didn't think we'd even get a ride.
Man we were riding for about 500m getting so many turns in was ridiculous, and best part the paqddle out was so simple as the tide was running out :-)
This sport is awesome..

It's probably a poor compromise and risking temptation and all .... but lie down paddling a SUP is not bad exercise and still easier than paddling a conventional surfboard.

One of the nicest parts of a day's surfing is to catch the last ripple in and to lie down and trim the board with your hands on the nose and take it all the way to the beach.
