but i'm used to it.

i was having trouble with one shoulder when paddling-' telephone shoulder' on the top arm of the paddle

i worked it out that my arm/ elbow was rotated out.

while working to fix it by rolling the elbow joint in i suddenly had a lot more power and less effort and my shoulders were down in a stable 'compressed position'. however it felt awkward with the normal paddle grip. i had this funny cocked wrist thingie happening.

so i started trying grips from power tools. that was ok. then i remembered i had a set of ski poles in the cupboard. cut one up

it felt pretty good

my body and legs moved better and found i had a lot more stabiliy

after thinking about it and experimenting for 3 days and doing a training session i decided to go ahead even thou i'm a bit nervous about it

i can still put my hand of the top if i feel like it

You will be laughed at.... Until you show people it works. If it feels better to you it sounds like you are on a winner for you at least, until someone tries is and likes it and then perhaps it's a winner for them as well and so on and so on.

Doesnt seem to slow Connor down to much with his hand that way on the shaft.

that grip gives you something to push down with and handle the blade better.

yes i've tried oconner style. yes you can sprint pretty fast.

but for me its more about having the shoulders down and in a good strong position- less fatigue

funny enough noel- one. these poles were light alum. hi tech. however i have a mate who now owns a ski shop. i reckon they would have carbon grips- that would be lighter

it was a bit if stuffing around to fit.

i reckon if i could i would have a 'small' moulded handle on top like normal

cheers

Try ATV grips, or if they are too big use MX ones as they come in different sizes for the throttle.

i don't know who to explain it better dj.maybe shoulders up near your ears or shoulders down and more compact. brings your lats and opliques into play more rather than your traps etc.

the point of the elbow isn't up lifting your shoulders and other associated muscles

the thing about the ski pole grips is the slight pitch of the handle and the slanted grip shape. a straight around 'stopper for the want of a better term bits into the bottom side of your wrist. that is what i found with the power tool grips.

the off set pitch and slanted shape of the ski pole handle was way better.

thxs thou

i put grip not he shaft of my paddle just below the paddle for starts of races and fr sprinting and found that i hold both hands vertically rather then one each way.

works way better.

you know dj, in a way, that what is actually happening in the surf.

paddle 'out' and crank a bottom turn. paddle out in front, 'plant it' and turn around it for the cuttie

lets call them 'paddle plants'
