Yep, just when you think there is enough toys out there, here it is
the rest will be available at around 6PM eastern on the GoPro web site
vert fast rambo - here is some more geek speak:
The Wi-Fi enabled HERO3: Black Edition is the most advanced GoPro, ever. No expense was spared during its development, resul
ting in a GoPro that is 30% smaller, 25% lighter and 2x more powerful than previous models.
Where is Piros, this might keep him off that sony thingy!!
Fantastic - a GoPro that can shoot at 4K. That will be very useful for shooting the sequel to Titanic.
Scotty we use them everyday. Shot the prime minister with one last week in Bali!! Every cameraman has one or 2 in the car. Looks like we will all have another in the next few months. I've lost track of where I have stuck them.
Yep, just about every production I've worked on have one or two GoPro - not that the camera-operators like using them.
I've found the pro-photogs are more interested in alternatives to GoPro, but GoPro were the easiest to come buy when the producer says they want a POV perspective at the last minute.
It's pretty hard to miss when GoPro are in shot - this is part of the reason they are not liked, so distinctive and difficult to hide/keep out of shot. Many companies don't want to plug or show branding. Especially the ABC.
The alternate cameras that gain the most attention by the crew are/were POV.1.5 (and POV.HD) also Drift with it's rotating lens, lcd and waterproofing.
I suspect Sony and JVC is also of big interest now.
The only downside to Sony Actioncam is how hot they run - causing fogging inside the housing and the bright yellow housing.
Contour are pretty good and used to be in GoPro shoes as the #1 sold worldwide. But they lack a viewfinder. Photogs don't like to point and hope for the best! And the good Contour cams are pricey.
There's also ION and ReplayXD as considerations. Though again ION looks pretty flash with it's bright colouring.
