I´m new to the sport and would like some advice what board I should buy... ( yes, THAT question again... )

When I first saw SUP I made a paddle myself and tried to stand up on my old windsurfing slalom board... It didn´t work...

So, I build a board from a foam block and epoxy. The result was ok, but the board is pretty slow and I have named it "Pearl" for a reason...

The spec. for the board is 9" 3' x 29' and my weight is 143lb. I have no problem paddle this board and wonder If I should go with this length? Most boards I have seen are longer.

The conditions were I live is mostly slow waves maybe around 1-3" high and it's allways windy when there are any waves.

My local shop have these boards;
Southpoint Timpone/Kalama S.U.P 11'6
Southpoint Bonga S.U.P 10'0"
NSP S.U.P 11'0"
Walden Magic S.U.P 10"10'
Naish 11"6' and 10"6'

Are any of these boards good? The NSP and Walden are those boards that would fit my economy best.. Have anyone tried these boards?

Well, to sum what I'm asking; Are 10-11 feet to long for a guy of my weight? Are there any board that I'm listing better than the others?

Hi Sweden, welcome to the forum.
I ride the Naish 11'6" in conditions similar to yours, but a lot warmer I would imagine. It handles the mushy waves really well and the extra volume allows me to connect over the slower sections. I weigh 92kg.
After seeing the photos of you riding "pearl", you shouldn't have any trouble paddling any of the boards you list. I don't think going any shorter than 10' would give you any advantage in windy conditions and slow waves.Try a couple of boards first if you can.

PS you need a longer paddle.

Hi Sweden,
I think all these boards are probably good boards but the only one I have ridden is the 11'6" Naish. For you at 65kg I think the 11'6" Naish is too big, probably the Kalama as well and the Southpoint Bonga at only 27" wide with step rails is going to be very difficult to balance in the choppy conditions. Any of the other boards would probably be OK.

Out of that list and considering your weight (55 kg) I'd suggest either the 10'10" Walden or the 10'6" Naish.

I think the Naish is a better board and has a hand hole..The Walden may be a little cheaper but it will be very difficult to carry.

Welcome to the Breeze..Let us know how you go..Your home made Pearl is a classic..It looks like it would tend to nose dive.

You wont believe the difference when you get on a real SUP board.

thanks...

(my weight is 65kg, by the way)

I'll see if I can try some boards before I buy one. I will post some pic when I have my new board... But maybe I'll wait to buy until they announce the 2009 boards.
