what to get for a big board for the season?my 8'8 isn,t going to cut it with the handling and the paddle power needed to get over wash overs, sweeps etc. spent so much time getting the shorties wired i've got no idea for a bigger board. jamies surftech model looks good. is 9'6 enough?still would like a good performer. i think a bit of weight will not hurt any idea's
cheers
As far as punching out through a big swell smaller the better , a big board will give you more speed when you're up and running but if you are getting munched in the break it's quicker to recover and get paddling again on a shorter board even if you are just laying down.
It's a big trade off to go to bigger just to paddle out , keep it short and narrow as you can for the best surfing performance in meaty surf.
For your size and weight 9-6 would be a boat for you unless it was and absolute pin pin thin gun.

The 10 in the photo is great in bigger waves and yes it is heavy about 11kg. My 12er was one of the earlier ones that is really heavy about 14kg with all the fruit on. The newer ones are lighter.
In bigger waves weight is not an issue. Custom PU would be nice. At your weight one of these good too. Out soon. Comp or wood construction.
The 9 8 or 9 10 rippers would be good in juice as well
Okay Lacey - you want a mix of speed/punch through waves/hold on big waves and instant acceleration and knowing you, something just that little bit different - look no further because I have found the solution for you !!!!!
yeah yeah I know it's too fat in the tail.
