Today my brother and i went to a place called Port Flinders (growing up it was always called weroona island but the official name is the one you will find on the maps) Its been a very hot week her down south with the weather here not getting under 39 degrees for the last 8 days, todays temp is 41 and there hasn't been a breath of wind for days so we thought why not have a crack at some open water cruising since my brother is still finding his sea feet i thought the calm water would be ideal.

here are some pic's of how calm it was

This is the veiw of the make shift boat ramp that the locals use

Everyone calls it an island but its actually not just looks it from the road.

Port Flinders is a great little community that doesnt have any shops or businesses and none of the local residents want any either. The island is has great fishing and the blue crabs that are everywhere there and are a great feed.

cheers

Nice...I also took some pics today while I was just cruisin'....and will post them soon.

Just wondering..What-cha wearing on your feet?

Also..that second pic shows the correct position of your top hand if the paddle was fully dipped..(imo)

So your paddle does look a bit short..concidering it's not dipped at all....How tall are ya.

Hey DJ,
The booties im wearing are ripcurl with a rubber bottom, i had to wear them today because the shoreline was very rocky

the photo where it looks like the paddle is too short for me i was trying to turn the board around so it might of been on a bit of an angle which may of made it look a bit short. im 6'1'' the paddle seems fine but i haven't compared it to anything else.

cheers the feedback is great as i dont really have anyone to ask until i go to Adelaide for a cruise.

yeah you might be right about the lenght DJ i looked at a couple of old pic's and my blade would of only of been half in the water. The standard naish paddle is 83 inches long and is about eye length at the start of the blade, which i thought was about right but you have thinking know that it might be a bit short.......oh well.
The guy who sold it to me said he used the standard paddle and he would of been a couple of inches taller than me.
How tall are you DJ and what length is youre new paddle?

I'm no expert either..but here's a pic of me..My top arm is in a similar possition..and my paddle is fully dipped.

Those alloy Naish paddles are a bit on the short side..imo.

The guys in the surf like a short paddle tho..But then..They do bend right over when paddling hard.

I'd like to see a pic of you with the paddle upside down and T grip touching the ground...I'm sure it must be less than eye level.

I'm 6'4"..My home made paddle is 88" long..My new Naish Alloy is only 80"..My new Naish carbon is about 83"..and a bit short for me..(for flat water paddling).

I find that when using it..my arms are pretty close together because my top hand has to drop down..and I'm not getting much leverage over the bottom half of the paddle when paddling hard.

Here's a pic of me holding my paddle DJ for some strange reason i thought it was at eye level (i must of been to anxious to get out on the water......lol)so i think your observation is right mate.......i do need a bigger paddle)

I thought the googly eyes might take the focus off the head that looks like a half eaten parstie........lol

I couldn't find my tape measure but on the naish web site it say's the alloy paddle is 82 inches long, have you measured yours or is that what you were told. I might have to make a cheap one to find a good length before i buy a carbon one.

yep the naish paddles are way too short... unless you are 5ft tall...

there not bad for waves ... but for distance paddling u need them to be 8" to 10" taller than u .... so i've been told..... it does make a difference, i've swapped with greenroom's longer paddle whilst on the water and the difference is very noticeable...

i'll be converting mine shortly.

Nice pics Champ. Looks like a nice place for a cruise.

BTW, I just measured my Naish paddle and it is 80". Seems OK for me (I'm 6') but I havn't compared it to anything longer.

Cheers

Hey Danny, just got back from Robe, Big Kite/wind surf Classic down that way, a few people were using the SUP's, i think I wouldn't mind cashing in on the sport when the wind is down, get the best of both worlds.

It was an extremely hot and flat weekend at the island, but those days are gold for wakeboarding.

Next time im up ill give ya call. who knows i might have a SUP board by then aswel.
