gulp, well a few people have said to me i should be on a smaller board
a dc8'6 x 28 1/4 area round pin, fine ish tail and stepped rails

it sure feels different when you pick it up with the stepped rail

I saw Tommy Carroll with a stepped rail a way back-seemed to make sense-getting the buoyancy of the mid thickness and the lower finer rail for performance.

Report back when you get a ride-looks SUPER fun!

nice lines on that one lacey lane. very nice indeed.

My planner fingers starting to get itchy again with all these pictures of new boards been built, almost time to kick the kids out of the shed and make a mess...

yeah, it looks sweet. i had a go on barry's board and had a close look at piros's board. barry's was super quick and very fast rail to rail.i have a psh comp lite 8'9 ripper which is a beauty and i'll keep for the rougher stuff.so it's a 8'6 shape with the stepped rail concept. casso seems to think his is about 105 lt's, i'm guessing or hoping for about 100 lt's. i might be dreaming, but, while most good sup pers can get boards radical the transitions aren't quite fast enough, most times for most of us, to really go vert with some zap- here's hoping. the reality is i'll probaby just bog the rail faster then normal
cheers

Step down rails will be the future of "short" SUPS I think?. I'm new to SUP but by reducing rail volume, it will surely increase a boards ability to fit into a wave on a bottom turn?

I used to have a 7s stepped rail 6'3" short board that went unreal until I snapped it. The stepped rails are a great idea as you get the benefit of the volume in the middle but the narrow rail. Look forward to yr review when u get it.

i think much the same. i reall can't imagine going any shorter at my weight with out going out of control width wise and by that, i'm talking about having some sort of comfort paddling around and chewing the fat waiting for a wave. isn't funny how many of us, for no apparent reason, fall off just standing there waiting around after pulling off feats of skill paddling back out through a set of waves

Ooooooh, nice.

Spray it up in a couple of different shades of blue and bring it to Port Macquarie in two weeks time - that's my ideal board. I'll only need it for 20mins (maybe a few more if I'm lucky). Tell Dale it will get good exposure!

Looks great.

Happy with mine step rail, but want to see what happens if I go smaller and thinner with even bigger concave in the deck so hope to have Dale shape me another one this week. Going to try 805 x 27 1/2 x 3? with the concave deck. At 75 kg I will probably sink it.. but only one way to find out.
Current step rail is very loose compared to the JL 9 I have, but dont know if its because of the cathedral hull under the nose giving the lift or the step rail thing.

PM me if you want another decent go on mine before you finish your new one.
Cheers
